Your worst DIY mistake?

Mine prob when I was running a wire to a mic in the dome light/sunroof controls. Taking it apart I cracked the mic grill plastic. When I went to BMW to get a replacement cover they told me it was an entire unit that cost 375.00 dollars. Told them I would super glue it and they replied with "That is not the BMW way" Ended up finding the part on ebay used for 45 dollars + it had an extra SOS switch that mine did not have before.. So an upgrade!!

Carbon fiber hood wrap within 24 hours of owning it to hid the previous owners cat's scratches on the hood. Ran it for about a year, looked sexy but couldn't resist Jet Black respray.

Now she's sittin pretty without makeup

I did it myself and it wasn't as sexy as a respray. I say MISTAKE!

Ancient History but I snapped bolt .

Ancient History but I snapped bolt while installing a water
pump on a Honda Accord . I was used to American cars with
no wimpy bolts at the time . Had to have the car towed to
a nearby shop to complete the job.

A few years back I tried to switch out the LEDs in my cluster to make them white. Fucked it all up and had to buy a new cluster.

I was changing interior bulbs to LED and I broke one of the sockets for the map lights. Thinking back, I should have just taken the whole assembly out. Not too bad though.

In my defense, I was 20, dumb and had no clue how to paint ANYTHING. Also, long story, but hey, I know I ramble sometimes.

Sooo... On my Solara, the grille's chrome accent was flaking off, so I found the idea of doing chrome spray paint instead of plating it for $300, but wound up looking like frickin' primer.

Even worse? It was the night before a coworker's wedding so I wanted everything PERFECT. Pressed my suit, bought new shoes, detailed the car... but primer-look gotta go before I head out in the morning.

The bad part? When I took paint thinner to it, the bigger surface wiped right off, but the nooks where the sandpaper was inaccessible actually had the chrome sheen I was looking for but never had; pissed me off big time. However, it was getting late, I parked on the street in a bad neighborhood, and awkwardly half-shiny half-flat-plastic thing is better than no-grille-toothless-witch, so I just slapped it back on my car and decided to leave it to the weekend.

I intended to keep a low key and park as far as possible, but with no self-parking at the fancy resort, I had no choice but to use the valet. Just as the new bride and groom were leaving in a stretch limo in front of 200 attendees, some idiot valet driver grabbed the wrong key and was parading my car around the plaza, and apparently it's been circling for a good few minutes. Even worse? Their best "limo pic" involved the front of my sorry-looking car and it was front row center on MySpace (this was 2006, people), and a few people were even making comments on my car, which her having 2,500 friends was no help.

Mine was when i bought this nice book shelf from Walmart. I tried to put it together myself, but the instructions weren't clear. Got my dick stuck in the ceiling fan.

Did you have a thread going for that install? I'd really like to read it.

I sheared a plug in my e30 once from over torquing it even though my scumbag torque wrench was on the right setting.

On my e46 I shattered my driver side window after changing out the lock actuator. Metal on glass doesn't mix.

On the family e36 I stripped a couple exhaust manifold nuts and had to dremel them off. That sucked.
