Stupid is as stupid does

I am sure the firefighters took delight in smashing his windows. I bet he won't do it again.

Good, glad that happened. They should tow the car away as well once the emergency is over.

I guess that is why we, BMW owners, have the reputation of being the biggest jerks on the road.

I am not defending the D-bag that parked there but ...

There was no reason to break the windows. That hose could have gone right over the roof and it would have been easier and faster for the firemen. And if the guy shows up to move his car, which might help the firefighters, he can't do it now. The guy is gonna get a ticket for sure. But I would rather he get a bigger fine and not have to pay for needlessly broken windows. That money could be put to better use.

Just make him drive around for a year with a bumper sticker that says "I am a D-bag".

Can't bend the hose over the roof, needs to go straight through to allow water flow

In the second picture, down farther in the article, it definitely looks like the tightest bend in the hose is right out of the hydrant. The hose could have gone right over the windshield with the same bends as it took to go through the car.

Again, I am not defending the guy but when someone else ends up buying this car, with undisclosed water damage, it will just suck for them.

I don't see that at all. Those hoses are under IMMENSE pressure and they're going to want to go straight out. The less bends the better.

To me it looks pretty clear there is no other way then to go through the windows. I hardly doubt it was done to harm the owner on purpose

In this picture, it looks like the hose could have gone over the car just as easy as through it. And then they could have moved the car out of the way if the owner showed up. Heck, they probably could have moved the car as soon as they arrived on the scene (after they bashed in the quarter panel of course), but that would have taken a bunch of guys. Or one really strong E90Post contributor.

It was just on TV and fire fighters had to actually move the car with hands to put the hose on.....that's how close it was to hydrant

The firefighters didn't do this to punish the owner. Don't forget it was a 8 alarm fire, you think the firefighter have the time and effort to do punish someone when people are dying inside. The car was too close to the hydrant, they had to go through the window. The less kinks the better, even if it was a minor one. The small difference in the size of the kink means a lot in terms of water output. They had to move the car a foot out to get more water pressure. This isn't even the first time firefighters do this. They do it all the time whenever someone blocks the hydrant.

I doubt the insurance company is willingly going to pay for the damage.

Not possible and who cares about the owner coming back and moving the car to "help out" the fire fighters already found their path of least resistance.
