rear o2 sensor stuck on downpipes

So I'm getting my ar downpipes installed and the shop calls me and says they couldn't get one of the o2 sensors off from the rear of the stock downpipes. Car has 40k miles. Shop says it's baked on and I need a new one. Hard to believe that it can be baked on with just 40k. What do you guys think?

Take it to another shop! For real though they should try to take it out until it breaks. Or they already broke it and are just saying that they cannot get it out, then they don't have to pay for a new one.

They broke it reinstalled and torqued the sit out of it. If not the right amount of heat with a rosebud will get it out. Sounds like a sketchy shop.

I've experienced those o2 sensors first hand and some cars did take quite a bit of force to get them off, my own personal car gave me hell for about 30 minutes as I was in fear of breaking it off. I was literally putting my entire body weight into the wrench and it wasn't budging and clearance was an issue.

If they don't have an o2 sensor socket I would try one of those first as that will surely get it off in the most correct fashion.

If they are using an open ended wrench that could be a concern but sometimes you need that extra leverage they provide.

Thanks for the info guys. The owner said he tried the best he could but it wouldn't budge. Its still connected to the old downpipes. He said if I can get it off without messing up the treads then I can bring it in and he'll install it, no charge. Or I buy a new one and he'll also install it no charge. Gonna try another shop and see if they can get it off.

My primary rear O2 stripped on me and I hate to cut it in half and drill it out to remove it. So, they are likely telling the truth.

Soak it overnight in some PB Blaster. If that doesn't do it, try heat.

I've never heard of that in all my years. They can be difficult but I have never had someone email about this issue. Did they try soaking it with some spray for 15-20 minutes too help?

Heat and a bigger wrench will generally do the trick but one should always spray PB Blaster on any corroded part that you're taking a wrench to.

Not sure but I did soak it this morning and let it sit for an hour.
It still took 5 minutes with a wrench then it Finally gave.
Maybe they didn't soak it long enough

Ya maybe.. I am really surprised a shop couldn't get it off. A DIY guys I can understand, but a shop with all their tools... kinda hard to believe. Like Tiago mentioned mild heat is another great way to get it off.

Yeah hard to understand but it's off. Now I just need them to
adjust my downpipes. I'm getting vibration inside the car when
it's in park or not under acceleration. Plus , finally
Hearing the police siren sound from the turbo .. haha . All fun stuff.
