Executive package, executive priced?
So $4300, seems very overpriced for what it includes, and thats based on what all the features cost on the standard 3 series:
Executive Package $4,300 •Retractable headlight washers •Comfort Access keyless entry $500 •Head-up Display $1000 (when buying Tech package vs just NAV stand alone) •Satellite radio with 1 year subscription •Heated Steering Wheel $150 (what it used to cost when it was a stand alone option) •Rear view camera $950 in combination with below item •Park Distance Control •Leather seats $950 (doesn't list it as included but it is) so in total we have $3550 of options not including the satellite radio and headlight washers since I am unsure of their price, but based on a cold weather package costing $950 and including heated front, rear and steering wheel plus washers, it can't be more than $100. Satellite Radio is about a $150 cost. So this package should be $3800 MAX and BMW is charging us $4300 for it? I thought "packages" were supposed to save money vs stand alone options? |

Don't forget the $500 in labor to bundle all of that together and then pay the marketing department some money to come up with the name "executive package".

I did a cost analysis on the Exec package here:http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...5#post15580395
For me, I don't see a lot of must haves in the Exec package for the price. Sure a few likes, but not adding up to $3350 worth more than extended leather. I'd love a heated steering wheel and comfort access, and I could find the parking gadgets helpful, the HUD would be nice, could care less about the sat radio, and HATE the headlight squirters. But then I think of what else that money could buy in real options: For the money, I'd rather do something like: Extended leather ala carte $950 19" wheels $1200 Adaptive Susp. $1000 HK $875 and throw in metallic paint for $550. That adds up to $4575 for real honest options, not $4300 of fluff.

Is it overpriced? Yes definitely.
Would I enjoy the car without all those options? Yes but not as much. A car like this should come standard with a backup camera. They are standard on all Honda Civics. I think that they are doing this to make more off early adopters who are already sold on paying MSRP. Wouldn't be surprised to see changes for the next model year. |

They could have just charged 1500 for HUD and made way more profit out of it. But logic and ///Marketing don't always get along as we all know

I agree on the overpricing of a package with a lot of fluff. One thing to consider, however, when quoting other manufacturers as having these as "standard" is the quality of these items.
E.g. The quality of the backup camera in my wife's Accord vs my 3 series is like comparing an HD webcam to a VGA webcam. Although a lot of these features are standard, they are the cheapest variants available. |
