New S4: Twin Turbo v6 3.0L

I brought this to the attention of this particular forum thread so as to maybe find out if our friends that our currently working on tuning solutions for our twin turbo 335is will be considering doing work on the new s4: A twin turbo 3.0L engine rated at 330hp... If this is the case I may hop on the Audi bandwagon. The B5 s4 was known for the turbos being blown...hopefully Audi has stepped it up a notch. Once these cars get to the market the tuned 335i vs the tuned B8 S4 will be the ultimate rivalry.

The B5 was known for fragile turbos, the engine is QUITE stout. Hopefully they can get the heat issue under control on the B8.

good question. But chances are the engine and car itself are lighter making up for the small loss in horsepower. This car will also be directing torque to all four wheels as opposed to the rear axle.

Wow, just noticed that it was confirmed on Audiworld. Crazy. I didn't believe it would actually happened.

Can't wait for some of the Audi tuners to get their hands on it!

Great, I'm going to have to buy that car now, lol.

It is, but the new s4 will have: Torque vectoring...takes all-wheel drive to another level by varying drive torque not just between front and rear axles but also between wheels on the same axle. It is given that it will employ Audi's revered quattro all-wheel drive, however it will not be just the active sport differential system which is centered around distribution of torque on the rear axle. The B8 S4 will instead mark the debut of Audi's vectoring quattro system which will allow the dynamic allocation of torque to all four wheels

By adjusting torque side-to-side, a higher degree of handling performance is achieved by delivering more torque to the outside wheel in a corner, turning the vehicle more sharply and precisely.

Edit: In its basic setting, the torque-sensing centre differential delivers 40% of torque to the front axle and 60% to the rear. The new set-up is able to send part of this torque to the individual rear wheels almost instantly (less than 100 milliseconds) if it detects any loss of traction.

I meant rear axle not rear two

Interesting competition for the Evo X. I'm glad to see Audi following BMW's lead in going for the turbo'd 6 vs. a heavier V8.

Wonder what they would do for the RS4 in that case? Maybe put the V8 back in so it competes more with the m3. So they have a lineup like BMW with a twin-turbo 6 that could end up making more power than their more expensive big dog with the V8.

If weight of this car is decent, then the 335i will get spanked around the track... with not even a limited slip differential for the two rear wheels...

S4 B5 has that crappy KO3s.

BTW, I am saving my pennies to get me B8 S4 in Avant, need more room since kids are getting bigger now.
The little lady at home complants the X5 4.4i is just too heavy for around town (I think that's her excuse to drive my 535i more)

What makes you say that? The S5 couldnt beat the 335 in a recent test w/o LSD. They were pretty much even.

Um, following BMW's lead with a turboed V6? A little backwards.

The article states that its going to come out in 2009 and, they are betting that the force induction is going to be supercharged, rather then turbocharged....!

The only reason they're bringing back turbo'd S4's is because of the 335. If they loved turbos so much they never would have stopped using them in the last S4.

One thing they never have to worry about is their interior styling. BMW isnt even close

Audi never stopped using turbos. They are available all over their lines. Look at the new RS6. 580hp bi turbo V8. Last gen was bi turbo V8.

They may have not put turbos in this particular last gen of S4. My point is that Audi is known for turbo motors and did the URS4 and B5 S4 with turbo(s). So, doing something you have done forever isn't exacly following. Only recently did they produce NA S and RS models.

I do agree however, that 335 probably played a factor in the bi turbo rebirth in the S4.
