My name is kaigoss69 and I am addicted to...

...underseat woofers.

Just picked these bad boys up. Have been looking forever but they have been impossible to find. They were sold by Phoenix Gold but manufactured by Morel. What's impressive is the mounting depth of only 2.5" and the power handling of 350w RMS. They don't build 'em like that anymore!

But do they actually handle 350W rms?

Manual:

I personally would probably never come close to sending them 350W (I can bridge my HD600/4 to 300W x 2) but it's good to know that I won't have to worry about blowing them.

Expensive, but I'd be willing to give them a try if you like the way they sound. I need a new amp first.

I probably won't be installing them anytime soon. My existing underseat enclosures are hacked up to accommodate the Morel HCW-10's. I have a spare set of enclosures but I sent them to Hybrid Audio for testing of their new 8" underseat woofers.

It's like whatever is on the internet is true because you can't put anything on the internet that isn't true--says the internet. Just because it says it in a manual doesn't make it true. Lol

If they are good quality they should be able to handle rated power. If they really do handle that much power they are worth the price.

Another interesting thing is the fact that these work in as little as 0.1 cubic feet of air space. The internal volume of the underseat enclosures, as measured by me, is 0.0794 cubic feet. Now add a spacer ring 0.75" thick and you gain about 0.02 cubic feet for a total internal volume of pretty much exactly 0.1 cubic feet.

So I am thinking about sealing the enclosures to give these woofers exactly what they want, a sealed-off airspace. In that case they would need a lot of power which is not a problem of course. Should be a fun project.

so physics need not apply? all it needs is a good build quality and it can defy the laws of physics?

Any decent audio company wouldn't lie about their specs and 350 watts isn't a ridiculous amount of power. You are right that the rating could just be made up, but that usually is only the case with entry level equipment.

it doesn't matter who makes it. no speaker that size is going to handle mid bass at 350W RMS. side note: people give way too much credit to Morel...

powerful amps are much easier on speakers than low power amps...

its not the high watts that breaks drive units its garbage signals from over driven weak amps

as for if they handle the power that's al that matters, I'd be more worried do they sound good!!!

Definetly I'd rather have more than enough power to blow my speakers that way I know the amp will never clip.

So a 40x2 amp is harder on a speaker than a 100x2 amp? All I can say is "wtf"? What in the world are you talking about?

Also, it's not high power that breaks a driver? It's only the signal that goes to it that breaks the driver? So then I can play a sine wave at 1000watts rms to a 3" midrange and it'll be fine because it's not a "garbage signal"?

If your gain is set right you can. It's called headroom.

It was stated that it wasn't power that damages a driver. That means 1000w rms to a driver with a sine wave as a signal will not damage a speaker. The gain doesn't matter! The output is 1000w.

Take it easy on him now, that's a common car audio myth. Even I was a firm believer in that myth until someone called bs and showed me the proof.

can't stand when people try to teach others when they have no idea what they're talking about; then they infect the people who don't know any better and the myths keep continuing.

Yes but 300 watts clipped is much worse on a speaker than 300 watts unclipped. If you set your gain right you can have a 1000 watt amp put out only 300 watts. That is extremely excessive though.
