e92 Foglight HID or LED?

Hello,

Just wanted some help with choosing my fog light bulbs.

Do you know what bulb K the OEM HID's are on the e92(headlight)

I want to get HID's/ LED that are a perfect match with the head lights.

Would you go for LED bulbs or HID for the fogs? i dont want the bulb to reflect and show too much of the white bulb with leds all over it because i feel it takes away from the OEM look when the lights are off.IMO unless there are some led bulbs out there that dont show as much....

Which brand would you recommend is the best to go with?

I want to mirror OEM settings/fitment and have no issues or error codes

Please let me know

Thank you

Your OEM fogs are not HID, they are halogens. That said, the kelvin on our xenon D1S headlamps is 4350k OEM.

Sounds like you probably don't want a true aftermarket HID setup - that would involve ballasts, more heat and potential wire splicing.

LED should be plug and play, emit less heat, and should not throw errors (if it does, then there is coding for that.)

Brightness becomes a factor however, and I am not aware of any LED plug and play fogs that shine as bright, let alone brighter, than OEM halogen fogs.

The different halogen solutions are never going to be a dead match- you cannot match a halogen temperature with a HID temperature.

I personally have been through a dozen different H11 fog bulbs, from 2500k to 6000k, and ultimately ended up going back to stock. They just turn teal or blue as you go up the scale.

The best halogens I had in the past were Mtec Cosmos blue 4750k.

Have you looked at the Philips diamond vision? Or PIAA bulbs? Your best option would be that or get some good canbus error free hid kit you have an 08 so they are not as picky with errors unlike an 07. Just get like a 5k, 6k ballast. LEDs fogs is a poor investment IMO. It's more like a look thing since youll get a bright look when you look at the car from the front, but behind the wheel you wouldn't get the performance as oem and HID

Philips diamond vision are damn near impossible to find in H11, I would have loved to have tried them. Right now, I am using Osram Night Breaker H11s, ever so slightly whiter, with a slightly longer, wider beam than my stock OEM Osrams.

Here are the Osram Night Breakers for comparison...not nearly as bright, or as long a beam as HID, but marginally better than bone stock Osrams.

I have a pair on H11 I install and HiD kit so have them laying around on my garage while people are trying to find a pair lol jk, but honestly diamond vision is more about looks also because they give you a nice bluish tint, but not as bright as the night breakers. So you did a nice choice.

Haha! Yea, I'm just trying to convince myself they are indeed brighter and whiter than stock right now...

Brighter than HID? That seems unlikely!

Anyone actually installed this $160 set of LEDs in their fogs and done a review? Tempting if they really do throw that much light and have a nice color to them.

Will the LED still fade on/off as welcome lights? This is the reason I haven't gone HID on my fogs yet, but I'd do 3000k LED if they worked with the welcome light function.

For the H8 guys you can utilize our 80W LED Angel Eye option that will also fit in the fog lights.

For the H8 H11 and other bulbs we have the HPB HID Fog Light Kit.

It's really your call.
I don't think an HID ballast would appreciate welcome light fade in/out, sounds like a good way to destroy some electronics

I dont know if you want function out of fog lights but the higher you go in color temp, the less useful the light will be in foggy conditions. I use the PIAA plasma yellow fog bulbs and they are a noticeably better in fog!

I never said it would like it? My 2009 335i did not have a welcome light fade in and out on the fog lights though.

If I had that feature I would look into removal. These fade in and out features on these newer cars are nothing but problems.

Which model years have the fade in and out feature in the fog lights?

It's a coding option, I programmed it onto my 07. What problems do they have?

So you coded your vehicle to purposely fade in and out, correct?

The problem is just as you stated, HID Ballast and even some LED lights in particular do not work in harmony with the fade in and out option.

We had some X5 owners too who wanted HID fog lights but their fog lights turn on when they turn with the blinker on so they throw codes.

There are actually LED options that are brighter then HID now. LED technology literally improves on a monthly basis. It's amazing what they are doing now.

ah, I thought you meant you'd seen issues with the welcome light itself, obviously lamps requiring ballasts etc aren't a huge fan of voltage fluctuation

I like the look, so I'll probably just stay halogen. Maybe swap some 3000k bulbs in for that mad tyte jdm look, yo.
