JB4 install help please!

i just received the n55 jb4 stage 2 and i am very confused with how to install, do I follow the n55 F30 instuctions? only attacting MAF and TMAP? leaving the other 2 alone? also do I attach the can wires that come off the top of the harness? please let me know i am very anxious to install and cant seem to find and information on install other than F30.

Thanks in advance

Jeff

Yes, use the F30 install instructions on BMS website that links you to N54tech F30_install.pdf it's the same engine as ours. You do need to tap into the CAN wires that come off the harness as well. Hopefully yours came with the posi-taps so you can remove them without the dealer really knowing they were there.

thank you very much, yes it came with the posi tap wires, but just to be correct i only connect the TMAP and MAF? leave the other two alone? then connect the CAN wires

I don't have the pdf in front of me atm, but I believe you install rainbow/brown wires and purple isn't used and blue isn't (because we're electronic solenoids) then you do the CAN wires via the posi taps and have fun.

They go on the ECU harness itself I haven't looked at the 235 myself yet as far as the location but just take a look at the PDF and match up the colors. I don't think it would be any different from the F30 in terms of ecu wire coloring. Just make sure you choose the correct transmission as manual is different and at the bottom of the pdf.

On MT cars, the larger bundle by the ECU has a twisted pair that's red and blue-with-red stripe. That's where the CAN wires connect. Brown to red, green to blue-red. The F30 install guide I downloaded yesterday has the right picture, but the text has a mistake: it calls the pair "blue/red-blue wire pair" when in fact it's red/blue-red.

Tells when you get it install and shoot some pictures. Want to hear about the first known JB4 Stage 2 install on an M235i.

According to Terry, we can only run Map 1 for now, not Map 2. We would need the electronic solenoid harness thingy to run Map 2 and that is still under development.

I think with the steering wheel control you can only run Map 1 -- If you hook it up to the laptop with the usb cable you should be able to run map 2 no? I hope you can run map 2.

I e-mailed Terry and he said we can only do Map 1 for now . It makes sense since I think the harness for the electronic wastegate allows you to boost past 12psi. And without it, we are limited to only 12psi for now. As long as I get close to 400wtq I will be happy .

Steering wheel toggles between map0 and whatever map was selected with the interface.

Map2 needs EWG harness and some thing better than 91oct.

I've installed it, but there's not much to see that's different from the F30_install.pdf pictures. The only thing I did new was to run the EWG wires and punch USB through the firewall.

Check my "started threads" for USB cable information.

Here's a pic of the EWG, taken from next to the shock tower looking towards the front of the car. It's really tight in there, and you have to be careful to orient the cable correctly. Can only do this on a cold car...

Yep, MT.

Here's a pic of an F30 N55 highlighting the loom you need to invade to fish out the red/blue-red CAN twisted pair if you're MT.

I installed the harness on my AT trasmission, i think its working but it threw a "chassis stabilization drive moderatly" code on my dash... when i hold down the volume down it does blink on shifter, but im not sure how to change maps or hook up using usb. im used to the vishnu so this is different for me. Do i need a special USB cable or any standard serial to usb becasue when i pul it it says comm2 failed and yes i set the comms on my computer to 2

thanks

Jeff

I got the same code. Went away after a couple of restarts. I think it has to do with disconnecting the battery.

I've never tried using a generic USB to serial, so you're on your own there. If you're using Terry's cable, you need to go see where the COM port landed (using Device Manager), then configure the interface to match.
