DRL Question

New BMW owner and new to the forum. This is my first Bimmer and have been surprised at how different they are and how much there is to learn about these cars. It's been a mostly enjoyable experience.

I've decided - like many - that I do not like the yellowish look of the OEM halogen headlights/fog lights/angel eyes and want to replace them. However, I've noticed that when I have my DRL's on, that the halogen bulb on the high beam side is dimly lit as well as the angel eye around it. But yet I notice pictures on a lot of other cars where the angel eyes are just illuminated around both the low and high beam housings. Now mine is a 2011 328xi. Did they change something that model year?

Thanks for the help!

Here's a picture of mine...

I run my AE's on position "0" or "1" obviously "0" being auto lights. I had my headlights coded to be brighter.

go into your stick column and turn off daytime running lights. Once on that turn the dial to the parking brakes. you will have angel eyes and amber on.

follow that but hit off

I had the same setup, a 2011 328xi with halogens. Just coded it the other day to use AE only as DRL.

The coding I used was:

VERHALTEN_DRL_TFL --> drl_s

In the module NFRM.

Thanks for sharing Emozoo. Unfortunately it didn't work for me because I have the Nav package on mine. So there was no DRL option on the stick. I have a Lights option in the Menu on the iDrive, but the only thing there is to check or uncheck the box for DRL's.

Thanks Wycy I'm thinking this is what I may have to do. I read a little about recoding but not really up-to-speed about it yet.

right so did you uncheck them? uncheck it and turn the dial to mode 3 and report back with findings

Don't have a mode 3 option unless I'm missing something. I unchecked the DRL box but if I turn the dial I just scroll through the other two options.

on the side of your steering wheel there isnt a little dial for automatic headlamps ect? If so, turn that dial to 3 clicks in for parking lights only.

this is a quick fix, since technically you are driving around with your parking brakes on. youll need to code your DRL as the Angel eyes. find a coder in your area if you only want angel eyes

Ahh, I didn't realize you had iDrive. I had to go the coding route because I don't have iDrive, but luckily you have the simple option to turn them off.
