Power access for radar detector on M235i

Can anyone who recently was lucky enough to get their m235i tell me where the lighter adapter is located? Need to figure out the most seamless way to run/power my radar detector.

Thanks so much

Marc

Check the new m235 thread there's a very good DIY on tapping power in the mirror.

Thanks but I'm not looking to do a custom job. Was just wondering I there was an alternative lighter outlet near near the bottom area of the passenger seat so I didn't have to plug into the middle of the console in the way of everything.

Thanks

I have hard wired my Passport 8500 using the trunk fuse box. There's a DIY in the electronics section.

Isn't there is another lighter outlet under the dash below the glove box like the F30?

I can't find the thread? I'm curious if you need auto dimming mirror to take power from it...

No only outlet is front center console and rear of center console for the back.

Here you go:

I did mine in 5 minutes with a 15" cord, would have been faster but I was working in the dark. Really no reason to go any other route.

I hard wired mine also with Mirror Tap but it was more like 20 minutes. The lighter is different from my past BMW's in that power always stays on, in my E93 when I turned the car off the radar detector went off but I tried that in the M235 and it didn't shut off so I hard wired it. Really it should be 5 minutes I was just scared of breaking a brand new car.

Shouldn't be an issue. Power in the car stays on just the engine itself cuts out.

Ya but I heard the voltage might drop to around 10V while engine restart making the radar to reset..... not sure if this is true or not... that's why i was asking if anybody experienced issues with auto start/stop

mine is wired to the mirror via taps & doesn't shut off when the auto start/stop cycles.

Just make sure you test it before snapping it all back together, I had to push the two connection wires in pretty far to make good contact.

Took a few minutes but I got it to work....once I realized it was more of the mirror arm to separate and not the mirror, I got it to work in about 10 minutes. 3-4 minutes of is it the mirror or the mirror support.

Glad this was easier to wire than my old 335xi

Mirror is def easiest route for us. Other option is fuse box in trunk which some folks have done but that's a lot of work and running wires by side curtain airbags scares me.

Agree. The 335i was wired to the glovebox so that was a small pain. This was by far the easiest.
