I've never had a BMW with brake dust this bad. My '11 e90 335 had little to no brake dust, it was apparently a new type of pad BMW uses and I think they performed better than these on my 235i.

Wait, are you saying that the m235i has a new pad?

My 11 e90 hardly gave off any brake dust, the rims on the m235i are literally coated in the stuff after a two mile trip down the street...

Pay out of pocket to replace the crappy BMW pads, I see no other way. I have ceramic pads on my 128i producing almost no dust and even if they are less effective I don't really notice. Or alternatively you may try to go to detailer and coat your wheels with something like opti-coat but the dust will still be there, it will be just easier to rinse off.

My 135 is pretty horrible with that. I have about 2 days after a carwash before there covered in it.

people who has BMW should not care about brake dust
you just have to live with it or swap the pad with something else.

BTW M235i is worse than 1 series to me too.

Another good observation - the wheels themselves aren't nearly as "dark" once you clean the damn things off. And I have done a lot of that already - had the car a little over 8 days, and I have cleaned the wheels 4 or 5 times already. Gonna be a long summer when it comes to that.

LOL....it's a BMW..i cleaned mine almost daily...Get a Leaf blower and have it plugged in near your garage and blow off before you park it..It helps but still will have to clean those rims alot...

I noticed the same thing on the 235 and F30 335 I test drove. Both with the M sport brakes and the dust on the wheels was like my 07 E90. I know BMW got a lot of complaints about this and those the 10-11 cars have a different pad that makes almost no dust. our 2011 currently can go a month and barley look dirty. it doesn't have as much initial bite as the 07 did but is still pretty good. and the pads on my 11 inspire more confidence than the new 235 or 335 ones did. the new cars had a soft pedal. the car stopped pretty good and the MT test of the 235 shows a short 60-0 distance but I guess I was just expecting more from the brakes given how much swept area there is.

Maybe the solution is to have a set of PF RS4's, stop tech SP, Hawk HPS, etc., on hand and swap them on the car right after picking it up?

Yeah, I love that on my 2011 you can drive for weeks without saying oh my God I've got to clean my wheels. I wonder why they changed?

Replace brakes

Just get different pads. BMW's r known for heavy dust. U likely wont got through a set of pads just driving on road while under the 50k warranty so all ur really loosing is cost of one set of pads. About $300 is well worth it if u ask me to not have to clean wheels all the time.

My 228i is horrible w/ brake dust. I'm going to get some of the spray on protectant that is supposed to help keep some of it from sticking and make it easier to clean.

Guys on the f30 board are saying that porterfield r4-s pads work really well and don't produce nearly the dust of the stock pad. Might be worth picking up a set.
