Alpina TCU code 511b

Hey guys I've tried to search what this code means but I haven't found anything on it. TCU code 511b. The tranny shifts great, I have 60k miles on it, fbo with giac. I changed the ATF fluid at 50k to redline. I've just ignored the code and kept driving the car. Any thoughts?

ALLDATA has a BMW SB regarding this error. It's an incomplete coding error that BMW indicated they would fix in the next service release... Never happened. Don't worry about it. It's not an issue..

I'm getting this code too and it appears to be causing the SES light to come on. Anyway to get rid of it?

This code should not cause a SES light. What are you using to scan codes?

According to the SB the 511b doesn't cause a service light. The code is specifically "code missing". I have SPDaten 53.0 now so I'll look for updates. But I doubt if BMW or Alpina did anything regarding this as it doesn't cause any issues.

I used INPA to scan for codes. I also have a 2D2E code, but I've had this code before without and SES light, so I assumed the 511B was giving me the light. If its not causing the light and it doesn't indicate there's a problem then I don't really care about it.

Well the SES light did not come on today, but I scanned with INPA and 2D2E was there. So why is there no SES light this time?

If the code is stored but not active it will show up on scan but no SES light. Does it say H2D2E rather than P2D2E. Not sure how inpa displays history codes as I use a different scanner. But this is likely why you don't have a SES.

It just shows 2D2E, nothing before it. This is what it looks like in INPA.

So the current status is ok and 12 stored faults. If you cleared them it would be good until the code reflashes and the module should show not ok when you have the SES

I have had the Alpina Flash for almost 2 years and never had a problem. This 511B Error Code popped yesterday. I know previous posts are saying not to worry but I was wondering if anyone knows what exactly this is and how to clear it? I have not been able to find any detailed information about it. Thanks!

It won't cause any issues unless you have a newer car and then the paddle shifters won't work 2009+ I think. Basically the error means that coding is missing, the trans was flashed with winkfp with the alpina flash but then the coding steps were not completed.

You just need to code it with ncsexpert as in this post with the file provided and it will fix it https://bmw.***********.com/threads/...e-8#post-11373

It also caused an issue with XHP flashing previously alpina coded cars originally but XHP fixed it to do the coding if it was missing.

Here is how to do it

- Copy the file attached in your C:\NCSEXPER\PFL folder
- Start NCS
- Load Profile  Expertmode FSW PSW Manipulate ohne MAN
- Hit F2 (Chassis), Select E89
- Hit F1 VIN/ZCS/FA
- Hit F3 ZCS/FA f. ECU, select CAS
- Hit F6 (Back)
- Hit F4 (Process ECU), select EGS
- Hit F3 (Execute Job)
- Done

Please make sure that the text matches the functions on your F-keys in NCS!
if the text appears at another F-Key, use this one!

I am not familiar with NCS expert coding. After reading through installation guides and warnings in there guidebook like this I am not sure if I feel to confident in messing with this :/

"WARNING: At this point, it is very easy to do something that could make your entire car explode. Always remember that coding is serious business. The default job is SG_CODIEREN which will write to the selected module using the values in FSW_PSW.MAN, which is presently empty. Be extremely careful any time you use NCS Expert, but especially at this stage in coding.

I bought the car with the JB4 w/ MHD BEF and the Alpina flash already installed. So I don't have the connector cable or any experience working in the software. I think I might try to find a local tuning shop to do it or just deal with the error on my dash. I appreciate the help

What error do you have on your dash, a 511b is a shadow code, it won't set any dash light.

If you are thinking of paying someone to fix the 511b, for probably not much more money you could just buy XHP and flash your trans, it is better than the Alpina flash and most of the cars flashed with the Alpina flash had the 511b error that would cause issues flashing XHP, so XHP fixed the issue and they add the coding when they flash the car, so you get it fixed and a better trans flash with more options. You will need a cable or dongle but it isn't like NcsExpert, it is an app that you just pick setting and write it to the car.
