Revving engine 1st gear

Why can't you rev the engine past 4k rpm in 1st gear?

If the engine is cold, it is the engine protection system.

Who's revving out a cold engine anyway? That's just stupid. Luckily BMW makes cars with nannies for just that person.

It can happen on occasion by accident. No need to be harsh, it was probably just an observation on OPs part.

The M3 has a cool rev limiter that changes according to the cars oil temp. It starts off at 5,500 first thing in the morning, and when warmed up moves back to 8,400.

By accident? Enough you notice it won't rev past 4k? Enought to start a thread asking why it won't go past 4k? Lol
That was my first thought as well. Accidental observations..

Everything is possible. We don't see it or experience it does not mean they dont exist.

I did rev to 4k the other day while adjusting my seat. I moved my foot and I bumped into the accelerator. It went to 4k in a split second. It takes no time at all to rev to that speed. You'll see when you have a BMW one day.

Lmao!
I didn't say I've never done anything stupid before like adjusting my seat while driving. Maybe not with my feet on the Pedals?
But I guess I don't know how they do it in Bavaria...

Maybe one day when I grow up and can afford to own a BMW I will get it.

But with teachers like you guys I guess its just like owning one...

Thanks for the lessons in foolery. I've taken them to heart.

x2, that rare incident where you hit the gas instead of the brake when trying to put the car out of park.
