So took car to dealership re noise in cabin.....
And as expected was told - 'yep, it is noisy, it is the RF tyres, but it is no noisier than the other similar cars' - he also said that swapping over to another tyre would probably help, but of course they didn't want or have time to do that - and I guess it's a money issue!! Even though the car was booked for a day, I was really just hoping that we could at least try another set wheels/tyres. The obvious question of non RFs came up and he said that would definitely make a difference but not something they can do. So I am emailing BMW and seeing if they can do the decent thing and say to the dealer 'try another set of tyres' and shut this guy up...!

I'm not sure it's due to the RF. It's an easy way out for them. I have tried 3 sets of tires so far on my car. the RF didn't seem any noisier than usual to me. Then the 1st non-RF was pretty normal as well. And the 2nd non-RF was pretty noisy (Blizzak winter tires). I think it depends on brand of tires, profile, compound used, etc.

I think the only way you'll be able to know for sure if the tires contribute to noise levels inside the cabin, you'll need some tool to measure cabin noise and compare under identical driving scenarios with different tires (same path, same weather, same driving mode/speed, etc...)

Well my summer tyres are Pirelli P7 cinturato ecopia RFT *, and still close to full tread depth. I'd like to know if there are any runflats that are as silent as my winter tyres. I don't mind the rft harshness. Otherwise I'd reconsider my options and put some non-runflats on the 18 inch wheels after the rft's wear out. It's on my F30.

my summer rubbers make much less noise then RFT. RTF also ride pretty rough and I feel like are pretty prone to getting sidewall bubbles in. I say this because I got a sidewall bubble after 2 weeks of driving lol.

Do 320i's differ in sound insulation from 328's or 335's? I would like to think BMW would not do this type of cost cutting from the 328 to the 320. But considering that they are the same engine (just de-tuned), I can't help but imagine that BMW may have tried to squeeze a few extra dollars out somewhere.
Even my 435 developed a rattle this morning when the temp dropped to 17 F.

Who is going to pay for these used tires if you don't approve paying for them yourself? You knew the car came with run flats, I assume you test drove the vehicle before purchase. |
