Hard-top E46?

I wonder how it folds the top down.

what would be the purpose/reason behind getting a hardtop rather than a convertable that can be put on for reasons such as rain or other necessary times for a cover?

Its an option on the E46. They have hardtops for other ragtop verts, like the S2k and the Boxster.

For winter use. The winter salt is very rough on the soft top fabric.

Thumbs down

You need to use a cable hoist to lift it off and you need to store it while not in use.

A buddy of mine has that top.

Not too heavy - just bulky. Need 2 people to take the top off and store it for the summer time.

Pretty useful - A coupe in the winter and nice convert in the summer/spring.

They have it for most all models. Theres a guy by me who has a z8 as a daily driver. During the winter he puts on the hard top.

I don't much see the point of it in Florida unless you're expecting a hurricane, but like the others have previously mentioned, people who live and drive their convertibles in the snowbelt absolutely need a hardtop.

You don't need a cable hoist, and there is a rack that you can store it on when not in use.

I had it on my E46. It was a $2500 option that really wasn't worth the hassle. Especially since I rarely drove it in the winter anyway. It really didn't help the resale value either. Looked cool (gave it a nice coupe look) and offered some interior lighting which the softtop did't have - that's about it.

If you look at just the top of the pic, it looks like the roof of an old town car.

be honest...it's ugly on the car, and in California, this is the first one I've seen.
