Dragstrip Launch Technique
Everyone knows that launching on the strip is different than the street. My question for those of you with several 1/4 mile passes under your belt and the Steptronic tranny is, what have you found works best? I've watched the MaxBoost video and his 12.56 @ 108.x which seems to be a wet burnout and powerbraking just before launch. Of course he was running BFG drag radials...
So what have you guys been successful with? Just roll up to the lights and launch? Dry burnout? Back up into the water to get the tires a little wet and do a burnout? What's your procedure?

This is what you have to do.
1. Put the car on DS (make sure you are in first gear with paddles) 2. Avoid the water box (not really helpfull with RFT) 3. Brake hold the RPM's 1100-1200 (try different RPMs see what works best) 3. When you see the green let go the brake (followed by Gas) 4. Hold the gas pedal to the metal (let the car do the shifting) 5. Enjoy the ride.( get you time slip and let us know) Hope this helps. |

my 60' posted at dragtimes.com was 1.868 on stock wheels and run flat tires-- i drove straight thru the water patch and stopped; turned off all computer interference (press and hold dtc button for 5 secs); burned out from there until just beyond the starting line; backed up so i would start where i just heated the track (that is one purpose of burning out stock tires); set gearing to 1st; brake boosted to btw. 1500-2200 rpm (can't recall precisely); then punched it on go with just a little feathering to avoid total 1st gear wheel spin, letting computer shift.

if you put it in first with the paddles, how then do you "let the comp shift" (since it's now in manual mode) without taking shifter out of DS and back into DS? will it shift for you at redline in manual mode?

I am running non-runflat Michelin PS2s, P265-30R19 in the back. Any change to #2 above with non-runflats? Also, do you hit the DSC/STC once like has been posted elsewhere? I'll post the timeslip scans late Friday night 11/30. Thanks again!
