What does the universal remote control control?

Searched and couldn't come up with anything. What exactly does the universal remote control control exactly?

Garage door. It's universal because it can be programmed to a range of brands.

The remote conforms to the HomeLink standard

BMW typically gives you three buttons that can be programmed to operate HomeLink compatible garage door openers or modules to turn on lights or open gates or whatever you can rig up for it to do.

Good Information on Capabilities

I've not done more than program my garage door but this thread has gotten me interested in programming my garage lights. The dinky bulb on the opener is... well, dinky.

Read this for some education:

http://forums.audiworld.com/showthread.php?t=1712480

In my research, I found no module to mute wife. Invent such and you could probably afford to order the carbon brakes for your M car.

I have two double banks of 4' fluorescent lights plugged into a 3-way tap screwed into my garage door opener light bulb socket with the 4' lights running lengthwise over each car. Plenty of light!

I've had this same set-up in the last two garages going back more than 20 years with no problems.

Yea, if you actually use it to its fully capability, its pretty cool.. I have button 1 open my garage door and turn on the main garage lights (not the dinky garage door opener light), button 2 closes the garage door, button 3 turns off the garage lights.

I've seen the universal remote mentioned in a few places here but nowhere in the specs for the car, is this an option or standard equipment?
It could be a UK thing, not available here but I'm sure I've seen it on other uk BMWs.

I've got the bits and pieces needed to do this in by Amazon cart just waiting for me to place the order. I like the way you have it set up... Good logic.

Although ordering the CCBs includes the inverse of the mute-wife module.

Plenty of types of garage door openers - can be programmed to almost any. By the way, learn how to program garage door opener: http://wnet.name/content/visor_compact_prog.html (Craftsman universal remotes).

This thread implies there is a universal remote included in the M3, but I didn't see any mention of it, or HomeLink, in the Owner's Manual for the F80 M3. I have the car on order, without a lot of options, and curious if this is included in all the cars.

Prefer not to have to carry around the garage door remote.

Correct ... it is the 3-button homelink.

Button 1 - Garage Door
Button 2 - Activate ExhaustMeister
Button 3 - DeActivate ExhaustMeister

What is the ExhaustMeister you ask? Electronically control the exhaust flaps to be able to have the flaps fully opened with the push of a button for that louder exhaust when you want it, or when you don't
