http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=934644 side note not sure about other dealers but in our situation our launch cars were pushed back another month to April production now. We were scheduled mid march production prior to hearing this news. So much for me having one of the cars by mid May and taking it to bimmerfest.

I'm thinking if launch cars are delayed a month to April then customer builds probably will not start till May. The odds of me having this car back from ED in summer months are almost non-existent even with first dealer allocation.

plus, if you think about it, 2011 m3s that are now 3 years old probably cost 70k new, and are still selling for high 40s to low 50s. and that's at the end of the model run with a new m3 coming out soon. that's only 20-25k in depreciation max. an m5 at 1100/mo is 39600 over the same 3 year period. 33% more expensive. tough pill to swallow

Yea don't do it. A ~$65K M4 is about 850/month if you max out the MSDs

You are comparing apples to oranges. If you build the cars the same way with same packages (exec, driver assist, light, etc), M4 costs more than an M5 if you consider one is MSRP + 58% residual and other is below invoice + 61%.
You can lease a base M5 below 950/month as well. |

And yes the M4 does cost more in that scenario but it also fits me better. Thats why I said if the deal was on an M6 it would be a no brainier. Bigger sports coupe. |

Yes I guess this makes more sense for the M3->M5 route.

Me, Personally, I would go for an M235i if I'm not gonna get what I want I'd rather save $$$ get an M235i then upgrade to M4 at lease end. M235i has great residual (63%/10k miles) and a lot of people have been getting $1000-$2000 off MSRP already. Not to mention the LSD is now available for $3615
54K MSRP = $454/month with MSDs OR ED MSRP= $345/month with MSDs It also seems that some people have been told by their dealers that ED allocations are not coming out of US allocations for dealers so that would give you even more negotiating power

the current m5 leases at best cost 36k over 3 years for a base car. there is no way you will see 36k depreciation on an m3 over 3 years and less than 36k miles. That's saying that it will go from 70k to 34k in 3 years. NO CHANCE. 2009 m3's with over 50k miles are selling for mid to upper 30s, and they are 6 years old with the new model on the horizon.
