Road noise - acceptable??

At times the road noise in my F30 seems excessive - how do you guys find it - I'm on continentals...maybe it's just the shite road surfaces.

What kind of tires do you have on your car? Could be that. I find my e90 to have a pretty quiet cabin. Dunno how the f30 will be out on the road, but when ever I have driven them, I didn't notice anything out of the norm.

I know what you mean. I've got conti's as well and when I first had the car I thought I'd made a big mistake. Road noise was so bad that I was thinking of wearing ear plugs when I was on the motorway.
Since then I've done 5000 miles and I've either gone deaf, got used to the noise or it's got quieter with mileage.
I think it's got quieter, so maybe the run flats need time to bed in?
Still not as refined as my A4 though, with a bit of soundproofing it would easily make a good car a great car.

Conti sport contact5 RF - maybe it's me finding things wrong when I should just get on and enjoy the car! But on certain roads it sounds like like Apollo 5 lifting off!!

The 428i has more road/wind noise than almost any car I've previously owned. After a few threads online to get answers, I quickly learned this is just something common in BMWs today. Sucks but what can we do?

It's "normal" for F30. There are huge threads on this forum about the road & wind noise. The F30 is noisier than E90.

It is BMW reducing weight for environmental purpose and fuel economy.

Or in layman's terms, cutting cost to yield more profit.

I changed from michelin pilot sport ps2 to contisportcontact 5P, and the contis are MUCH noisier. Highly recommend Michelin ps2/pss if you're due for a tyre change and don't care for the constant tyre roar

Before I bought my 328i I tested one with 19" wheels (style 403) and one with 18" (style 400). Hugh difference in road noise!!! I bought my car with the 18"...

I have the 18 with the stock Conti summer runflats and I find it acceptable... But coming from a POS old car anything would have been an improvement.

The F30 non-sport sedans I have driven have had significantly lower road noise than my E90 (with sport package.) Road surfaces have a rather dominating effect on road noise, as well as tire type.

Yes the Conti's RFTs are definitely noisier on less than perfect roads.

My 435 came with 18" Bridgestone Potenza RFs. On some city streets at 25-40, they rumble so much my eardrums are clanking around. I haven't yet tried cracking the window when that happens, maybe to see if part of the effect is acoustically adjustable. It's a max 10-20% ride-time issue, and I'm not going to replace the tires early - they're great otherwise.
