newbie easy questions1 - shifting/exhaust

Picked up my pre-lci 335xi sedan this week, so i'll probably have questions until i figure everything out. Thanks for your help in advance.

1) Took it to work for first time today. After starting, i noticed exhaust only coming out of passenger side pipe. Driver side had nothing at all coming out. I put my hand over the pipe end to make sure. Could this be normal?

2) Is there strain/wear from shifting an automatic from drive to sport while you are driving the car? When i'm cruising down highway, drive works good, but the second there is traffic and i need to zoom around, i want sport. I can see myself wanting to shift back and forth a lot during my normal driving, so want to ask if doing this all the time will be hard on anything?

Thanks

1. This is normal. There is a vacuum operated flapper valve in the d side exhaust. search golf tee mod on how to defeat this.

2. No problem there although there are wires in the shifter that can break over time. simple to fix if that happens though.

Like gta said. It is normal on the exhaust. It open up at speed. If you wait about a minute after start up you will hear and see it open up.

On the shifter you can switch back and forth all you want.

This is how you disconnect the exhaust flap, if you so desire. It'll make the car a little louder.

thanks all. i don't want my car louder, so won't be doing mod. interesting though. does that mean with the mod, exhaust will immediately flow out of both pipes?
