Has anyone had ED pricing honored?
Just curious, has anyone had confirmation that the dealer will honor BMW NA's european delivery pricing ?? Or are all the cars being ordered for European delivery at US MSRP (which equates to a markup in my book)..

In LA I have had mixed responses... Some say US MSRP (for ED cars) no matter what and a couple others said they would sell at ED MSRP
I also actually had a few say no ED would be available for M cars or that BMW did not have ED...

ED MSRP at my SoCal dealer. Dealers trying to charge US MSRP for ED are having laugh.
ED's not worth it for the current savings at $4k, but for those who want a trip to Europe it's a great thing to do. |

Many of us travel yearly to Europe either for vacation or business. For us or at least me the ED savings are something I can't pass on. I'll wait a year if I have to.

If you go solo you could probably squeeze the trip in for 4k. The obvious win is seeing Europe!

I wonder how many people have ever paid above ED MSRP for an ED (on any BMW) ever. I have to think that number is near zero. So any dealership that is quoting US MSRP for an ED is essentially telling you they won't do ED IMHO. I don't think they honestly expect anyone to take that offer and complete the sale. I mean, I guess if someone is that desperate to both have the car early and drive it in Europe they might find a sucker. But IMHO at that point you are better off just doing US delivery and taking a European trip later or just giving up your spot in line and buying from a dealership willing to honor the ED price.

My dealer is honoring ED. I'll probably spend more on the trip than the $4K savings, but it's a way to get my wife as excited for the car as I am.

1. No ED discount for M cars at this time 2. Initial ED M3/M4 are coming out from dealer's own allocation |

+1 All it adds is an extra day to my trip to go pick up the car and drop it off the same day (done it many times) while I am already there. Plane, hotel & etc are already paid part of my normal expenses. So yes, I will take the extra savings especially, if I am getting a deal close to ED invoice.

Who is Offering ED?
So I just spoke to my dealer. He has the price sheet and he want's me to come in and spec-out my car. He still isn't taking orders, so he isn't asking for a security deposit, but he must be expecting some allocations soon enough that he will take my deposit now if I want to give it to him. (Back in early January he wouldn't take it at all.)
I want European Delivery. I love the idea of picking up my car in Germany and touring around Europe. I don't mind the discounts either. My dealer is saying he doesn't know if ED is going to be possible on this model year M4. At first I thought he was saying that BMW just wasn't going to allow it. This didn't make sense, since we've all already seen the price sheet with the ED costs. In fact, the dealer mentioned this himself. I said it doesn't make sense and then he slipped up... Apparently BMW makes special allocations of some models available specifically for ED. US dealers can sell these cars and it has no effect on their dealer allocations. However, any BMW sold by a US dealer can be slated for ED from the dealer's allocation. My dealer has no plans to do this at the moment. My salesman says that they already have list of buyers greater than their allocation. (In other words, my dealer is expecting to get at or better than MSRP for now and the foreseeable future.) The questions I have now are what to do? Is there a US dealer that is taking orders for ED? Is my dealer full of shit and he's going to be chock full of unused allocations a month from now? I want to be driving around Germany around July/August, not October/November, if I decide to wait, how long might I end up waiting and is there a chance that I not only loose my position in line right now, but I don't get in line again this year? This is frustrating!!! |

Yeah... That's now been proven to be false information. It's only dealers that do not want to provide ED that have been saying that. But I definitely heard that from more than one dealer.

^^Thank you for the shout out! unfortunately we are fully committed and no longer taking anymore request for the M3/M4 at this time.
once allocations start to increase per month/year we can start to take on more orders.

ed orders are coming out of dealer stock
dealers are only getting 1-2 a month going to be hard to find any dealer who would be willing to go anything lower then ED MSRP (IMO) most dealers will not even offer ED due to the allocations being so low.

However, dealers who believe they can sell their cars for more than US MSRP are not likely going to sell the car at ED MSRP. The reason, obviously, is they would lose money because BMW wont reimburse the dealer any money over and above US MSRP. Bottom line, there is no consistency, at least right now, between dealers in so far as what they are charging or what they will commit to. The good news is, as the thread above suggests, there seems to be ED deals to be found. Keep in mind, too, that some salespersons are just not up to speed on ED transactions. If you suspect that to be the case, try and elevate the discussion to the sales manager. Don't give up. Expand your search area, convey your commitment to the buy and I'll bet you'll find a dealer just waiting to take your money on an ED deal. You're right, Germany is very nice July & August. It's not that bad in February if you like to ski. |
