Questions regarding a new lease and M Performance add on's!

Hey guys! So i've been a long time lurker, but recently started to post here and there.... Very excited that I just placed an order with David @ Steve Thomas for PCD this May for my new 328i EBII/Coral Red! Current 2011 328i lease is up and I'm really excited to get into my new one!

Just have a few quick questions, and I promise I did a good search before asking! hah

I wanted to get the M performance exhaust installed after I pickup the car, Found one on Ebay for about $850.... When I get it installed, and then put the old exhaust back in 3 years when the lease is up... will I have any issues doing so?
I just wanna make sure there will be no problems getting someone (a dealer or auto shop) to get it on for me and then put the old one back when lease is up...

Also plan on getting the M performance stripes, black kidney, alloy pedals and a few other small things, but these are obviously non-issues when it comes to the lease... Easy to put the old stuff right back.

also, any idea on how much dealers charge to get the M performance exhaust or the stripes on the car?

Appreciate it! Thanks everyone.

As long as you don't value away from the car; you are ok.

Well, the reason I asked was because I saw someone mention when putting on the M performance exhaust on a 328i... there is some cutting and things that had to be done.... I just wanted to make sure that the old stock exhaust can go back no problem.

Not sure about that, but as long as you don't depreciate the car; I'm only assuming you should be ok?

You won't have any issues. You do cut the stock muffler off. But you can easily reinstall it with a band clamp just like the new M Performance exhaust is installed.

So this means no dealer will give me a hard time or anything about it?

Also, how much Do they usually charge to install the exhaust typically?

Thanks!!

As long as you return the vehicle to OEM, it'll be fine when you return your lease. Even if it isn't perfect underneath the vehicle, the dealership will not check the undercarriage of the vehicle. If you do the port-installed optioned performance exhaust you won't have to worry about changing anything out.

Port installed becomes more expensive though... I would rather buy out the exhaust myself cheaper online... And be able to sell it in three years and make some money back and just put the stock one back ya know.

Understandable and absolutely a viable option - FYI the cost on the P/E is $975, talk to your dealer and have them give it to you at cost.

I don't know why any dealer would give you a problem. The only difference is an extra band clamp that wasn't there before. It's back to stock which is all that matters.

Ok awesome! So it sounds like it shouldn't be an issue at all which is great.

Last thing I wanted to know if anyone has any ideas on how much a dealer typically charges for the M perf. exhaust install or M perf. Stripes install...

I called a few but they wanted me to come in first so they could see what they had to install....? Made no sense... they sell these accessories, don't know why it would be an issue to tell me over the phone how much they charge to install them!

For the stripes, I'd suggest going to a body shop or someone who applies aftermarket decals. The M Exhaust will depend on dealership, but I believe they quote it a 4 hour job, so it'll cost you around $450 to install.

Or you could save all this hassle by getting it port installed and have it show up being perfect at your dealer...

If you have it port installed you can't pull it off and sell it later.

Well like I mentioned earlier... it ends up being more expensive this way, I would prefer to be able to take it off, put the stock back on, and sell it and possibly get back a lot, if not almost all of what I paid for it.

$450 for dealer install seems a lot to me... guess i'll look around the LI area for a body shop that could do it for much less.

I live in Westchester. I had mine installed the other day. BMW wanted over $400. I got it done for one hour labor locally and watched him do it. It took all of 25 minutes start to finish. If youre interested, you can come by and see him. It was a very easy install.

Like BavarianFanatic said, you will cut the piping when first installing and put essentially a clamp over where the stock pipe meets the muffler pipe. Unless someone looking at it knows what to look for, it will appear completely OEM. Only issue is to have someone (or you) re-install the stock muffler in a way that is leak free (use a paste etc). My advice is either do it yourself with someone who knows what they're doing (i.e. done this shit before), or do it at a performance shop/dealership where there is some measure of accountability (though this is really easy lol). You'll pay $40 to do this at a perf shop I'd guess.

That's awesome, and he did a good job? I have a good friend who lives in westchester, I'm only about an hour and a half away... So that would work for me, gimme the name of the place and I'll look into it! Thanks!

I think $400+ is outrageous to have this installed... And yeah I don't think putting the stock one should be an issue from what everyone is saying so I'm glad.
