M235i Canada vs. US ordering differences

Based on both configurators, I have come up with the following order differences (please add more if you find them):
  • UPDATE: leather standard in Canada, $1450 option in US
  • Sun roof standard in US, $1500 option in Canada
  • Auto transmission is no-cost in US, $1600 in Canada
  • Heated seats and steering wheel $500 in US, standard in Canada
  • Car alarm $400 in US, standard in Canada
  • Extended instrument cluster only available as part of Tech package in US, standard in Canada
  • Canada gets 2 options apparently not currently available in US: lumbar support ($300) and storage package ($200) (cargo nets, mat, tie-down slots)
US list for base: $43,100 Canada: $45,000 CAD
CDN Freight/PDI: $2,095; US: $925

Update: it appears lumbar support is available in the US, but only as part of a package.

So with current .90 CDN dollar, in USD Canadian car totals $42,322 vs $44,025 for US car.

Price wise we also pay a 6.1% duty on the car . supposedly this CETA free trade with Europe is to get rid of this tariff eventually. Also look at the ED deals they get on msrp % off!

BMW should offer a moonroof delete or have it be optional on the M235i in the U.S. Save money and weight.

That was the primary reason I waited till 2013 to get my 128. They used to be standard back in 2008/9 and then sometime in 2012 it was an option that finally allowed me enough headroom to get a 128. This was also one of 2 reasons why I did not get the 135, as tempting as it was -the other being a non-NA motor.

Although my 128 is only 7 months old, I love the new 2 and can't wait to get one. Now that both the 228 and m235 are turbo, it boils down to the sunroof... I hope there is a sunroof delete option on the M235 in a year or 2 or else I'm going for the 228i

At least you got 20 uses out of it. I probably used mine maybe 5 times in as many years.

Agreed hardly ever use it, but it provides lots of badly needed light, and looks sporty - no car s/b w/o one IMHO.

That 6.1% is costed into the MSRP - it's not an added fee the purchaser has to pay, it's a cost to the manufacturer.

Just updated the comparison with the standard Dakota leather in Canada which is optional at $1450 in the US.

The Canadian car is looking like a reasonable deal for once vis a vis US pricing. If you add up all the price differences for the added/missing components in the first post, there is $1050 in extra value (admittedly calculated in mixed currencies) in the base manual Canadian car (pricing the extended IP display at $200). Value is a bit lower than the US version for the auto though. But then the Canadian car also costs about $2k US less. If you want a manual with no sunroof, it's a relative bargain here.

For once we don't get screwed on car pricing here! Anyone done a similar comparison worth the 228 with M Sport - US vs Canada ?

Never thought I'd see the day where we actually get a better deal than the US. I wonder if we have the best deal in the world right now. Usually the US is the cheapest place to buy a BMW.

Yah, but don't forget to factor in the $2700 we get dinged for freight, PDI and Admin fee (not to mention the 13% HST).

OP factored in freight/PDI. Admin fee is negotiable.

the U.S. EPA has become an enforcement/advocacy arm for Marxist radical environmentalists. They despise liberty and free market economies, and they are in charge at the federal level. Thus they continue to come up with ways to advance said agenda.

Canadian PM Harper better understands that free markets and trade are needed for prosperity vs. Obama who loathes such ideas and liberty.

The oppressive boot on our neck pushes down a littler harder each day and thus we squirm even more.

Something will give eventually...

Maybe buy one less option on your M235/228 and buy a M4 carbine.

Wow. That is better placed in the "Politics or Political" section.
