Interior sounds/rattles when boosting the HK

So, how many of you with the Harman Kardon sound-system have rattles and what not when the bass is pumping?

I have one vibration (left, as in the others have been taken care of) coming from the dasboard-area on the passenger side and itīs synced with the untss-untss.. Canīt really tell if its from behind the dash, the door or the roof.

Other than that, itīs solid as a box.

Does anyone NOT have any noise from playing loud music?

Yeah thatīs what I told my technician as well; Iīll bring it back in when Iīve found the source.

turn the Bass up, put on headphones to block the sounds and try to feel where most of vibration is coming from, with surround sound i found it very hard to pin point the source with music blasting

you can try, but at that volume i found it doesnt make much of a difference. what you can do it isolate speaker by each corner (adjusting face and balance)

I haven't heard any rattles from the interior of the car and I play music with a lot of bass often. Another thing that may work is to find a bass test sound file that plays different Hz tones through the speakers, so you can find the frequency where you hear the rattle, keep playing it and pin point the location. That's how I find rattling furniture and objects in my house. :thump:

Little off topic here, but I do hear exterior rattles a bit and have had one neighbor become furious about it, called me an idiot, wanted me to leave the neighborhood and thinks me and my "boom boom bull**** music should go back to L.A." where I belong. ...It was Sirius Hits, I think it was OneRepublic. And I live 4 houses down and across the street from him. And I personally asked my neighbors around me if they have ever been bother by the sounds from the car. Not a peep. So I think it's safe to say the rattles outside only bothers those outside who let it bother them.

I have a 335i with the HK system and was shocked to hear how bad it sounds from the outside. It sounds like BMW saved money by eliminating sound mat. Panel vibration is worse than one of those low-rent rap movie cars. It's embarrassing

On the flip side, it sounds pretty good from the inside

Yeah, I know what you mean. It's sounds like same rattles when people install a subwoofer half the size of a corolla and stick it in some beat up coupe making it rattle like crazy on the exterior. Except we have HK... and it's stock rattling on the outside...

My left skirt has been rattling since I got the car, has been on the warranty-agenda. But now I might have to add the right one, cause I am 99% certain that the vibration/rattle I had to find is coming from the outside, on passenger side perhaps under the car. Even in highway speeds I can hear it when playing this one house song with a really deep bass, its THAT intrusive. Will lift it and search some more soon.

Anyone have this issue, where an outside rattle finds its way inside the cabin?

The best way to find vibrations from an audio system is to play test tones until you find the frequency that excites the offending panel. I use iOS app "Tone Gen Pro" but I'm sure there are plenty of other tone generator solutions.
