In a touchless car wash. Car is not in park. In D with foot on brake. Steering wheel is straight.
The line is like 10 cars long about 5 mins per car. So my ass is not working how come? Oh yeh and oil temp is up to temperature. Outside temp is -7C PS im like 5th car in line and i gotta pee bad |

Usually the EfficientDynamics screen hints towards why ASS did not engage.
In a carwash line, if you're repeatedly stopping and going as cars go through, you'll trip the "stop and go" detection and the car will stay on to prevent excessive restarts. It's also pretty cold outside. And 5 minutes is way too long for the car to stop anyway; you've only got a regular 12V battery and it's not terribly fast at recharging. ASS is meant to optimize for the situation where you are driving 90% of the time and then reach a stoplight that lasts a minute or two. It is not meant for slow-speed or "stop and go" traffic, waiting at a stop sign line where you need to crawl at slow speeds every once in a while, extended length stops like waiting for people, etc etc etc. These scenarios require a more hybridized setup, like a true mild hybrid or a full hybrid. |

Could be a few reasons:
1-you didn't make it up to ~3mph or the cutoff speed to "Reactivate" the auto stop start. 2- It's too cold and even if your oil is up to temperature, the HVAC is telling the engine to keep running so you don't freeze to death (or keep the AC compressor running if you have the AC button on). 3- Battery needs juice

I had similar issue and was curious. I found that if I let the car coast more than 20 feet or so with my foot completely off the brakes, when I stop it would shut off.

its been -20C here and I have had it work. As long as the car is up to temp I'm pretty sure it works.
I don't use ASS too often, but I have tried in a carwash line because of the constant idling and I don't want start/stop manually. I believe the issue is you need to move a certain distance forward or the car thinks you are in stop and go traffic. When I was in the carwash line last time if I moved about a full car length it would engage, anything less then that and i got the indicator saying ASS not engaged. Like some others have mentioned here there are some other factors such as steering wheel being turned etc. |

Your manual is your friend.
From the manual: The engine is not switched off automatically in the following situations: - External temperature below approx. +37F/+3C. Pretty much dont expect it to "work" during the typical Canadian winter. |

The manual says it won't work below certain temperatures but it definitely does happen sometimes. I notice it when I leave from the garage in the morning. I suspect the car is warm enough on the inside, despite the air temperature being cold.
I don't think it uses the sensor that shows you the outside temperature. My guess is that there is a different sensor inside the engine that controls the temperature sensitive disabling. In short, when it works and when it doesn't seems more complex than the manual would have us think. |
