2014 328i M-Sport loaner impression
Had my '13 328i Sport in for the recall work yesterday and they gave me a 2014 328i MSport to drive for the day.
Overall I liked the car, especially the steering wheel. But, at WOT I swear the MSport has a much meaner engine note than my Sport. The car didn't feel faster; it just 'sounded' faster. What is it about the MSport that make it sound that much better than other 328s? |

I've noticed the same thing, coming from '12 Sport to a no-line '14. The engine sound is thicker, growls louder, close to an I-6. It's not only with the M-Sport.

It's fake, is not the real engine sound, so they can tweak it any way they want. All software.

Steering seemed to be heavier in comfort mode. Still wanders on center but doesn't seem as twitchy. The engine definitely seems to have more of a growl. My last car was an 11 GTI and I thought that mill sounded fantastic. I thought it was the cold weather here in RI but I'm starting to think its a result of the programming. Last the ASS seems to be less obtrusive. This I know is better based on how it felt before. I thought that some of this might be in my head but the more I read here it seems to a result of the recall.

So if you have doubts, nothing has changed or your hearing is not what it used to be

I've heard ever since the 2014 N20/26 powered 3 series came out that the sound was different. I had always assumed that it's placebo effect or some sort of minor change. I have a '14 no line loaner today and was blown away at the sound. Everything the OP said I completely agree with.
The difference in sound is amazing. |
