How to get warranty to cover a misfire when it only occurs when tuned

hello guys,

So this morning I noticed my car shutter under acceleration on 3rd with SES light on. Im running cobb stage 1+FMIC. After scanning, Code read "misfire cylinder". my car is CPO so i wanted to bring it back to the dealer, so I uninstalled cobb and of coarse it clears all the codes which is bad because now my car is running perfect with no codes showing up. I tried driving it hard on the freeway but my car refuses to misfire. I scanned several times and its showing no codes. any advice on what to do? im still under factory warranty as well i drive a 2010 e92 with only 30k miles and i want to take advantage of the warranty. Thanks!!

Well "take advantage" of the warranty is certainly an appropriate choice of words here.... Why would you expect a warranty to cover behavior that only occurs with aftermarket modifications in use? How about you stop asking how to commit fraud on these boards? And maybe see if COBB can help you diagnose and address the issue since that would be the legitimate course of action.

Thanks for being part of the reason BMW has to raise the cost of the cars we buy to offset fraudulent warranty claims!

Either barrow someone's jb4 and get it to misfire and remove jb4 as the codes will stay.
Or maybe remove the spark plug from the cylinder that is misfiring while stock get it go misfire and put it back and bring it in

Drive around for a bit without the cobb to see if code comes back.

+1

If OP decided to take a risk and tune his car which is still under warranty , he should be talking to cobb 1 to resolved his problem .This is the reason bmw denies warranty for modded cars.

Unfortunately this is the risk we take when we want more power.

It's not hard to learn about your car a little bit and replace plugs or swap coils around.

In fact it would prob take more time/money/hassle to make a warranty claim in this situation.

I would love to start doing that sort of thing come springtime! I just wish I had more people in the area willing to get together and hold "workshops."

BMW has been proving they can find out a car has been tuned, just FYI depending on whats wrong they may formally void your warranty at any visit.

My brother has a WRX with a Cobb tune, it has been 100% reliable. They don't seem to have all the issues with coils, plugs and injectors that BMW has. Why should BMW coils fail so frequently, even on cars that are not tuned. We pay more for a car that has less reliability and costs more to fix, double whammy.

The better question is, how did you envision their diagnostic process going? Even if the codes are still in the ECM, that only gives them a clue as to where to find the problem. They still have to go reproduce the problem, make a change, and fail to reproduce it so that they know whatever they replaced did the trick. If it's not misfiring with the tune removed, it's not going to misfire when they test it, and they're going to tell you the problem is resolved.

Can't believe OP really posted this. Perfect example of why dealerships are so tight on warranty work. Seriously? Hahahahaha, thanks for the entertainment

Im sorry but i havent heard of 1 single person that had their warranty void after uninstalling cobb. unless of coarse its sent to BMW NA after a major PUMA case but as long as its only at a BMW dealer there is no way to detect cobb or else millions of ppl would of had their warranty rejected already. your a joke

They are not going to fix a problem that only happens when you throw a tune in it which is causing the problem.So...…........ ?
