For all you Californians looking into custom plates, pre-order your classic plates:

Legislation introduced the California Legacy License Plate program offering vehicle owners the opportunity to purchase replicas of California license plates similar to those issued in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. In order for the program to be implemented, at least one of the three styles must receive 7,500 orders before January 1, 2015.

Legacy License plates can be ordered for any year model automobile, commercial vehicle, motorcycle, or trailer. The Legacy License Plate Program will not replace the current Year of Manufacture (YOM) license plate program.

Good post. I've already ordered my Black/Yellow 60's plate and, as of 1/15/14, they had about 70% of the required requests to put this program into effect.

If they sold wide European-style plates they would make a ton of money, I bet half the people here would buy them.
