Recall Notice – Water Drainage Grommet
I am not sure if Regional Forums are picked up by everyone, so I am re-posting just in case Canadians were the only ones aware of this issue. So far, the only ones who commented on the original post were a few Canadians and it doesn’t appear that very many people read the original post. In re-posting this item, I am making the assumption that a recall notice such as this would not just be limited to Canada.
A few days ago there was a post on the Canadian forum for 3 & 4 series regarding a recall notice for “service code 64 80 14”. The recall is to remove the water drainage grommet which is located at the bottom of the right hand "units compartment" inside the engine compartment. When I saw the post, I checked on "My BMW" and sure enough I had the same service code noted for my 2014 435i xDrive. I have since made an appointment to have the work done. My apologies if I am duplicating something you are all aware of! |

Just checked my car on mybmw and noticed my car has the same 64 80 14 service code. I guess I'll get it checked out at my next service which should be in the next 2 months or so.

Not 100% sure about the BMWUSA.com site, but once I am logged into "My BMW" on BMW.ca the Canadian site, I just page along using the arrows at the bottom. After the Vehicle Information and the Owner's Manual pages I come to a page titled Recall & Product Upgrade Notices. However, I believe that on the US site there is an area at the bottom of the page titled Manage Vehicles and under that is an area titled Actions. I would think any recall notices will be there.

Not X drive specific, I have a 2012 F30 and I had a letter in the mail for the water grommet recall. I just had it done last week, along with a O2 sensor recall. They had to reflash the ECU.

No recalls for my vehicle in the US. I've always wondered how an internationally sold car with the same parts the world over could get different recalls depending on country.

The parts/equipment aren't necessarily the same. Plus, some countries are more litigious than others...

Booked an appointment for my car today after the campain popped up when i was at my dealer. They said there was some kind of drainage "problem". Nothing serious, but they said they had to have the car in for about 1 hour..

Takes a few minutes I am told and it is a Service Bulletin as opposed to a Recall Notice.

Just called my dealer, car's booked in for it to be done on mine next week. So, it is applicable on the UK F30 320d, to answer my own question!

Just got mine done... There are 2 grommets.. they look over thought and over designed, and would be suited well for a Zodiac on the open ocean..
They sit low in the front gutter system, near the side fender vents, but sandwiched between the engine sheet metal and the outside skin. My take, after looking at them is that the flaps are fairly stiff even at room temperature and definitely could crud up with pine needles, dirt etc and you'd end up with a spa for the mice, with potential for the associated bath water to enter the cabin once blocked. If you live in the freezing climates, these things can definitely hold water. I tried one under the tap. Here's a couple of pics of the high quality grommet, but not so much the right design for this application:

Had to go by my dealer today because of a flat tire, which they did fix, thus not having to buy a new tire.
As soon as they put my key in the reader, they told me they ll change this grommet thing too because of the recall. So that's done now ! |
