coil is has shit ton of oil on it!!!

Went to replace my spark plugs right now. first coil i pulled out seems fine. second one BOOM shit load of oil is on it. I mean i point it towards the ground and oil is just leaking on the ground….

is this the result of a leaky fuel injector?? Also the coil 3 4 5 won't come out nd i don't wanna break them by accident either.

Use a screw driver to pull the coils out. The oil on coil(not spark plug) is due to a bad valve cover gasket. Look up the diy.

Not sure why a leaking fuel injector would deposit oil in the spark plug hole. It's a bad ring gasket in the valve cover set. If you smell no gasoline, the fuel injector is not leaking.

And the bar is quite easy to remove. Pop the cap off in the center of the windshield cowling. It's an E18 head bolt in there so you need an E18 socket, but a 12-point 9/16th socket works as good. Just loosen the bolt. Then remove the 12MM nut on the shock tower and the bar will pull out (it has a slotted end). E18 bolt torque is 100 ftlb.

There are DIY's on doing the gasket

There are DIY's on doing the gasket
You need a good torque wrench .
The gasket itself is pretty cheap you need new bolts to.
If you have it done labor is the main cost.

Go to and Indy rather than a dealer
dealer could be plus 1k
INdy less than 1k.

If it's the gasket seal. I'll probably get her replaced beginning of feb. Is it really bad if i put her off? My car has reduced power right now and it's driving me mad! I just want to feel her kick again. . lol

is it normal for cars with a bad seal to get reduced power and not have as power as previously?

Where did you find this recommendation? Even the DIY available in the DIY Guide section has no preference either way and simply restates there is an opinion by some (unsubstantiated) to replace the bolts. Neither BMW TIS nor BMW ETK/RealOEM state the bolts need to be replaced, unlike the electric water pump where in both systems it clearly states the aluminum bolts are one-time use only and must be replaced whenever removed.

The valve cover bolts are not in a load bearing nor high stress application, and the valve cover itself is of a composite material construction.

My coils were swimming in oil too

Thought I had a VCG leak

My indy told me that whoever did the previous oil change, some of the oil leaked out? Apparently this is common if the funnel gets close to overflowing when pouring in the oil. I don't even remember who did the last oil change, maybe a stupid DIY shoddyness on my part, I really don't remember. Indy cleaned it up and verified no VCG leak.

Hopefully this is the same situation as you vs. a VCG leak!

to answer your original question, a leaky injector would leave fuel on coils instead of motor oil. VCG is likely oil on coils (or a bad oil change lol)

Oh crap, I did get my oil change done before this. And my car was running fine before i got her done.
The guy who im getting my car diagnosed from was the same dude who did my oil change. I hope he doesnt try to hide the mistake and blame it on something else.
