Seal and protect

Had a search to see if this has been discussed but couldn't find anything

Is the seal and protect really worth having at £349?

Cheers

No. Get it done outside BMW. Costs less and they will take a whole day to 'detail it'. Don't let BMW touch your car!

I would agree with that, that scratched mine all over, I took it back last week to get them polished out, and they still have it!

Forget it all. It's a car, a German car, built well. Doesn't need anything other than how it comes from the factory.

Hmm....I disagree with that. The purpose of sealing or waxing a car is to add a further layer of protection on top of the topcoat.

So why not have that done twice or three times? I've owned cars for 30 years and nothing has degraded the paint (even the Alfa which is a surprise!)

Smells of emperors new clothes but it's your money....

Being keen detailer I wouldn't let a dealer anywhere near my car.

Get yourself over to detailing world and look for ceramic coatings.

Personally I would go for this

http://gtechniq.com/shop/3s-for-cars...or-only-exov2/

I have the C5 out of that kit on both sets of my wheels and the dirt comes straight off with just the blast of the jetwash

Heres a couple of mine freshly done with c5

and this is a c1 / c2v3 combination

I've seen this stuff mentioned previously and I am interested but, as I'm new the the world of paint and wheel protection, all I can comment is that the car and wheels look clean and shiny. I'd expect that of any new-ish car that had been washed and polished so I'm more interested if the 'easy to wash/beading effect' lasts more than 6 to 12 months with no top-up maintenance. If yes, great - I'll give it a go. If the effect starts to wear after 6 months and is gone by a year, it doesn't seem worth it to me.

Are there any details of how (or if) this protection can be applied by a complete car-washing amateur?

How about Diamondbrite?

A local valeter/detailer offers it for £240 for exterior & interior! and the website for it makes big claims http://www.jewelultra.com/diamondbrite.aspx

Anyone had it done or know about it?

IME you would be lucky to get 6 months. All of these products (ceramic/waxes/polymers etc) seem to degrade after a few months so will always need adding to during your car ownership. Obviously some will work better than others but after moderate use you will notice a difference. It's probably better to have it than not, although I know my first few cars never had treatments and they were fine...
The reason I had mine detailed again was more to have someone inspect the car THOROUGHLY before collection. I was able to have my Detailer carry out the work at BMW which was great.
I really want to get into detailing a lot more with this car so after winter has gone I will add further layers of protection myself. I only got the car a month ago! This will help protect it but more importantly it will give it a nice shine and make it slightly easier to clean each time.
Just my thoughts

There are videos on the gtechniq website if you click on each product, also on detailing world there is a sticky on how to apply all the products.

For thew wheels I use this, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/19088...ff14=95&ff19=0

Has good reviews on detailing world and the brake dust comes off really easy. But as for the seal and protect, i ended up with it on mine as they threw it in as a deal sweetener and the beading from whatever wax was on it ran out after 2 weeks. So i topped it up with some nattys blue paste to protect her for the winter. Ive also used poorboys black hole on the e91 which was amazing.
