Brake kits for 335i

Has anyone gone with a big brake kit upgrade?

If so which?

Reason I ask is that I've found a 380mm 6 pot kit for £1200 from forge which I think seems reasonable, but wondering if anyone had it already installed?

BBK's look cool, but do you really need one?!

350mm front brakes are more than enough to stop the car. Hell, they're bigger than Ferrari 360 Modena brakes at the front!

I've warped my standard discs, so they need replacing so have just been looking what else is available because I don't want to keep warping or cracking discs

Like Subzero said, BBKs really only look cool. They have no major improvement over our current braking system unless you're tracking the car. In which case they will work much better. Replace your warped disc's with better quality disc's for a fraction of the cost and invest the rest into higher quality tires. That's where you will notice the real difference in the cars stopping ability. Just my .02

When you say "standard discs" do you mean genuine BMW discs? I've gone through this problem for months with "quality" OE discs from Bosch, Pagid and ATE - then i finally trumped for genuine BMW discs and the juddering was instantly gone.

Only 250kg. (inb4 "only") Which these days is the equivalent of having your average American sat in your passenger seat.

An E60 M5 only has 20mm bigger brakes and weighs in at 250kg more! An E46 M3 only weighs 50kg less and has 25mm smaller brakes at the front.

Bottom line is that i've never found brakes on 335i wanting at all. Unless i was doing some heavy track action and needed better fade resistance, the brakes it left the factory with are great.

I understand what your saying, but I was just thinking once all said and done spending 400-500 on new say tarox discs then 200 on pads, I may aswell spend the extra 500 and get a lot better package overall.

I assume the discs are genuine BMW, the cars covered 28k and owned since covering 18k so would think it's still got factory fitted discs.

Just wondering what ppls opinions are .

Also the cars on Michelin pilot super sports all round

Last time I looked into it getting a decent BBK costs around £2k fitted, and that was just for the front ones. As others have said unless your really into stamping on the brakes on the track it's a lot of £££ to spend for not much gain.

Why not just buy a new set of genuine BMW front discs and pads for less than £400? And save £800!! And are you 100% sure your discs are at fault?

Erm no not 100% just assumed it's the discs that are warped as experiencing having judder under braking from high speed, although after doing some research looks like the same problem can also point towards control arm bushes.

But if say it is the discs I do not want to change them for the same quality disc for the same to happen again.

From what I've found with the 335i brakes...they stop you well...once.

They suffer terrible brake fade (as do all stock brakes) on track. For street use they are fine.

If you have an opportunity to go for a BBK then go for it. You got a link to the forge BBK?

Then just get better pads.

Plenty of people track their cars on the American forums with the 335i sized brakes. Upgraded pads are a must though but for most people that is fine.

IMO get a decent set of pads like EBC yellows, Pagid RS series or Carbotechs and use OEM type discs

Says the guy with 380mm front and rear BBK

Already got EBC yellow stuff with Goodridge braided lines and Motul RBF 600 fluid. Just my experiences what I found on track- to be fair was at Bedford Autodrome which is very heavy on brakes.
