Bushings
I am in the process of gathering parts to refresh my high mileage dd. I have 130k on the car at present. I have made a decision on dampers and matching springs already.
In terms of bushings and other suspension parts/bits, I am looking for input in terms of what should be on my list. Here is what I am thinking this far. Appreciate the input. 1). M3 OE Front Control Arms 2). Transmission mounts(Rogue) 3). Engine mounts What else?

M3 subframe bushings!
One of the engine mounts from the 335is is a bit firmer and fits. You can purchase the M3 front control arms from TRW with the M logo ground off for a lot less. add- rear upper and lower shocks mounts! As Mike mentioned-new strut top mounts too

All of those are good. As CVC said, add the M3 rear subframe bushings because yours are toast. Front strut mounts are probably a good idea as well, from hearing that you are going to upgrade your suspension.

or as a low rent alternative to m3 subframe bushings, whiteline subframe bushing inserts for $45 and 6 fewer hours of labor.

Did you use those inserts? Do they reduce the horizontal and lateral movement of the rear subframe? They don't get rid of the soft rubber in the oe bushings though

Did I use them? Yes, installed about four weeks ago. There's a nice thread on 1addicts suspension forum with DIY instructions (which is how found out about them). The OP and others give some post install impressions. I can't get too descriptive on the improvement other then to say they seemed to provide rear stability and, over sharp bumps and dips seemed to reduce up and down motion. No NVH issues; they seemed to reduce some minor NVH in my drivetrain (clumsy steptronic DS downshifts and vibration at low rpm while stopped). I'd like to describe more, but after install, it rained for a week, then I installed m3 rear guide rods. So, didn't really get to do hard, spirited driving prior to the guide rods....I can say that with both, the car is much more stable under hard acceleration (even a 328i ) out of a turn or during transitions. No they do not get rid of the oe bushings so I suppose they are not as good as a full m3 subframe bushing switch. Just think they are an alternative to consider due to cost/labor hours/easy install. |

^ definitely a cost effective alternative. Good to hear they've reduced the rear subframe movement.
