Brake pads performance with less dust

I have an 08 335i e90 and currently have bmw brake pads. I just purchased new wheels that will be more difficult to clean and am concerned of the amount of brake dust these pads produce. I am looking for a pad to reduce brake dust but not sacrifice performance I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

A lot of the users here like the Akebono ceramic pads. You can always go with Posi Quiet Semi-Metallic pads to reduce the dust as well.

I just put on the above mentioned Akebono's this past weekend and they are pretty low on the brake dust

well, that is going to be a bit difficult. The akebonos sacrifice quite a bit of performance IMO, and I would never put them on my car again. I am currently using hawk HPS, and the initial bite isn't quite as good the stock pads, but it's much much better than the akebonos. A lot less brake dust than stock, but a little more than the akebonos.

I've been using Akebono's on my 08 335i e90 for over two years and am happy with them. They have less initial bite than OEMs, but perform very well and are virtually dust free.

BMW changed the pad compound a few years ago so if you get the newer OEM pads they have practically zero dust. There is less initial bite than the older dusty pads though.

Funny how everyone keeps saying this - I go to the dealer for pads/rotors under Maintenance plan & ask for the new pads that dust less - they tell me I'm full of $hit & there is no such thing...

Now that I'm out from under free replacements, I went with the Akebono's & I'm happy with them. I have no problem stopping the car, nor does it feel as if the car won't stop. I would not use pads on any of my cars that were not safe.

The Akebono's don't hit as hard initially as OEM's but have a progressive feeling. The OEM pads had good initial bite, but then they would drop off. After using the AK for a couple days I didn't even notice the difference in initial braking anymore. Plus they are almost dust free and rotor friendly - gone are the days of cleaning completely black wheels after every 3 days

Cool Carbon pads are supposedly also a good choice...

I had akebono's on my 325i and experienced almost no brake dust. I plan on getting them for my 335i and get hawks for the rear unless I can find akebonon's for the rear. Does anyone know if they have akebono's for the rear

They make them for my 328i - I got mine from TireRack

Either go here: http://www.tirerack.com/, plug in your car info, then go to brakes section and check out the Akebono's available

-OR-

Go here: http://www.akebonobrakes.com/aftermarket/index.html, click on 'Akebono Web Catalog' on right hand side of screen, plug in your car info, get appropriate pad P/N's

I think you car uses EUR918 Front/EUR1170 Rear

The 918's for the front have clips on the outboard pads as well as the inboard's. If you don't have cilps on your outboard pads - you'll prolly need 918A pads...

I think its the dealer who is full of it. ;-) If you go to realoem and look at front brakes for a pre-lci and an lci E90 335 you will find the same part number for the caliper but different part numbers for the pads. I have owned both an 07 and an 11 and I can assure you the dust from my 11 is waaaaay less than the 07 was. the loaner 11 135 I had for a month while my 07 was having all the turbos and what not replaced was the same way. very little brake dust. I can go a month without wash and my 193's have just a slight brown tint to them and you only really notice it if you wipe some dust off with your finger or something.

Well, I have an 09' 328iX - I checked on Penske Parts & the Front/Rear calipers on my car have the same part number from 9/07 to 4/12.

However, there are (2) different pad part numbers for both the Front/Rear depending on years used. One P/N for 9/07 to 9/09, and a different pad P/N for 9/09 to 4/12.

So that confirms that even though the Front/Rear calipers on my car NEVER changed - there are (2) different pads that were used depending on production date - so either of the pad P/N's would work on my car...

Now whether the later pads are the one's that dust less or not, IDK

But the dusting you describe with the new less dusting BMW OEM pads is exactly like what I get from the Akebono's. Wheels take a long time to show any dust, & when they do, it's a very light tan color that you can't even tell is there unless you wipe your finger over the wheel.
