Saloon Xenon Upgrade
Sorry, I'm out of touch with all this, but my neighbour is keen on getting a highly specced 62 plate 330d saloon (I forget which F it is!) but the only thing it's got missing are Xenons.
What's the score with upgrading them?? Properly I mean not just be sticking new bulbs in. This mod used to cost way more than the option in the first place on E9x's but have things changed?? Is it simply pick up a pair of Xenon units and get them programmed in?? I've tried searching but could find an answer. Thanks.

IIRC it is a very expensive option to retrofit.
Need headlights, ballast, washers, programming. Will likely exceed the cost of actually speccing them by a fair amount. |

That's what I figured but any idea on costs?? It's just the car is already built but he'd prefer Xenons even if he has to stump up the cash - I appreciate it won't be cheap.

Based on the costs from the E8x and E9x upgrade you'll be looking at more than £2000 for basic xenons, and that is assuming you do all the work yourself. I remember someone on another forum actually got a quote from BMW to retrofit a 1 series and it came in at over £4000. Most dealers will also tell you it's not possible.
Edit: A quick look on Realoem leads me to think that those figures are realistic for the F3x. If the guy really wants Xenons I'd advise holding out for a car which has them fitted. And to slap BMW for not making them standard on 6 cylinder cars. |

Another option though, if he is stuck with the standard lights, maybe point him in the direction of this guy and ask him about the custom made concept F32 lights, he seems to be making them up for others anyway:

Expect to pay at least double that for F30 xenons, then read this thread for info on fitting them, looks a bit harder than E90: http://www.f30post.com/forums/showth...ighlight=Xenon |

Yep will be cheaper and easier to buy one with xenons!
Plus they will have the proper level sensors, and if you have a crash on your front end the xenons will be covered under insurance. |
