Hi,

i used the launch control already in the past.
You must have sport automatic

1. engine need enough oil temperatur (min 10-15min ride before)
2. choose sport+
3. gear shift into left/manual lane
4. select via paddels 1 gear
5. jump on brakes and throttle at same time and you will see the starting flag

Main point is that you have to push HARD on the brakes otherwise it won't work. Reasonable press won't do - has to be pushing right to floor. Was what I was doing wrong.

Indeed... and push the accelerator past the initial resistance point (i.e. to the floor).

It's quite counter-intuitive the first time.

Is there any mileage restriction on LC, or just a temp thing?

On the basis you collected your today - for you, yes.

Seriously, to be safe do it only after the 'run in' period of 1200 miles although Greg at Barons told me there was no run in period :roll eyes:

I waited...

I waited till after the official run in period, you don't know what the ecu logs these days...

I found it really quite simple, but as said already, firm pressing of the pedals is crucial. The sensation in the first 1 and a half gears was really quite strange, massive g force but no wheel slip or torque steer. It didn't feel as though it was giving the drivetrain too much grief either.

He told me no run in either, but said the car won't let me do it till 3k miles. The only running in my car will be getting is letting it get up to temp I won't LC it for a while though.

Is this feature only available on the xDrive cars or all?

Is this a new feature (thus older cars don;t have it)?

I believe all cars since July 13 build with sports automatic transmission have it.

Ok thanks i will check my manual tomorrow and see if tells me if i have it. I only have 400 miles on the clock (End of November build) so i will not be trying this for a good 2-3K miles (if ever).

Does this add loads of wear to the auto transmission?

It just says to allow time for the transmission to cool down etc. Remember you can read the in-car manual to get to grips with it.

I can now try this launch control now as my car has just done 1200 miles.
Might help loosen it up a bit more

Ok.
It was the left foot braking that also feels counter intuitive
I ll give it another go at some point..
Pushing the accelerator down with the break depressed goes against my natural instincts....

If you only have 3 seconds to release the brake it must be quite difficult to use this effectively in certain situations e.g 1/4 mile runs or traffic light GP!

3 seconds seems a very long time while treading both pedals to the floor!

What happens if you leave it longer than 3 seconds?

Tried this for the first time this week. A couple of questions...

1) it may be because I released too early but when I pushed the accelerator past the resistive point the revs seemed to build up towards the redline. On a few YouTube videos the revs are shown being held at 2-3k. What's supposed to happen to the engine speed?

2) I still got some wheel spin which I assume is normal (must have to lose traction before the computer knows to reduce power) but more than I expected.

3) Also, is there any difference to acceleration between say pressing traction in comfort mode vs. putting it in sport+?

I'm now at 2000 miles so will give it a go soon!

On the topic of running in.. I've been reading the manual over the last few weeks and it clearly states the running in advice from BMW. The problem is it's buried on a page you are only likely to read when you need to do some basic maintenance on your car. That the dealers are not being clear as to what official BMW advice is, is a disappointing really.
