Any interest in Audi S3?

Lots of talk about the CLA, but I haven't seen much interest in the S3. It's getting pretty good reviews so far. A bit down on power versus m235 and cla45 but it looks like it will be a very well-balanced car with a best in class interior.

Personally I would rather get a Golf R and keep the cash for mods!

The A3/S3 seem like a nice car, but honestly, a Golf GTi or Golf R is likely as good if not better to drive, more practical (as the US A3/S3 is not available in a hatch), and cheaper too. With the A3/S3 I feel that you are paying for the nicer interior, but the Golf's interior is pretty close.

Later this year, after almost 7 years of owning and driving my 1er cabrio, I plan to replace it with the M235i cabrio (xDrive if available).
The S3 cabrio will be the only other car I will consider.

I've had my A4 for a decade, and after experiencing countless, expensive issues with it, there's no way I'm getting another Audi. Yes, I realize my stance doesn't make much sense in light of the fact that I will be open to the new Golf R when it comes out.

I read couple S3 review's, as well as reviews for GTI and R. Since I am leaning to a 4 door at this time, all 3 models interest me.

Should add its just my opinion. That's how I look at it when comparing the auto trannys.

When it comes to the manual, the M235i may be the best option.

Also...M2 > ALL

Isn't the S3 just a Golf R with a trunk and four rings? I thought it was using the same DSG transmission and motor? Further, are both still using a timing belt, like the last generation?

You are correct. They will both use a 2.0 turbo motor and DSG trans. Also, I am almost certain they will be using the same timing belt.

The difference is Audi will probably put a higher price tag on the S3 because its an "Audi." Even tho same parts are used on both vehicles, as VW owns Audi.

Since we know that the initial S3 will be DSG only, I'm ignoring it, just like the CLA45, but if the R comes with a manual, at least as an option (hopefully they learned their lesson with the Mk5), it will get considered along with a 228i, especially if the rumors of a sub 3k pound weight prove to be true.

Promotional info

The S3 is (briefly) promoted on my local Audi dealer website (norwell, MA), as part of a section on the new A3 lineup. Basically, pictures of European spec editions.

Nothing similar on the audi-usa website.

I've been considering the S3, m235i, evoque, and the new v60 for my next car. The s3 has been the front runner(golf r is too far out) because of its practicality and performance balance. I think it looks great, has enough room to transport my bike, and the awd will make it easy running performance all seasons throughout the winter months. Downside is that its not a true Quattro due to the transverse engine layout.

Thought about the A4 because of the true Quattro and the option of a stick, but its just not special enough. I can live without the manual, but Id want to have an s badge on the back if Im spending 45k+ on a car. Im sure the m235i will be great, but there will be a lot of sacrifices with it(gas mileage, winter/summer tires, cargo).

On that note, does anyone know when US will be to order the S3?

I've read late summer 2014 it should be available. When to order? Probably a few months before that.

Just playing with you

Was actually thinking about the S3, the performance and price point seems good but the design and non-traditional Quattro is the deal breaker. Probably gonna go for the New C or M235i

I can already buy a coupe or sedan from BMW, when looking @ Audi I look for Hatchbacks and AWD..

Golf R is too small, where are the utilitarian Audi's at?
