Question email notifications in 335d?...

Hi all.
Well I've got my email working through my new 335d but was wondering if there was a way to get a 'new message' icon to appear when they arrive? All I resort to at the moment is going into the email section and checking periodically. Has anyone set-up a shortcut to the email section yet so it's quicker to access?
FYI, I have Pro Nav but do not have EBT...
Any advice would be appreciated

A envelope will appear in the little info box in the top right hand corner of the Nav screen when you get a new message or email.

And yes you can set up one of your shortcut keys to go to the message section.

As HFW003 said, but that only works if you are using your smartphone for email, the idrive shows a small envelope in the top right for new messages (email, sms and my info), but I'm guessing you are going to BMW Online > Office for your email instead?

Thanks guys, although I'm not sure I understand 100%??? I'm checking my email by going to the 'office' section but usually my email arrives to my phone.
Going to the office section is a bit long winded so I would like this to be as close to a one touch process as possible. Is it also possible to receive text messages without having EBT?
TIA

There are two different "Office" sections, one is located locally within idrive itself, it's under the idrive main menu and within Office there is a sub-menu for Messages which you can then set a shortcut to using the 1 to 8 shortcut buttons. (Although idrive remembers the last sub-menu you were in, so for example if you were looking at messages then went to view navigation, then went back to Office it would open up at Messages again straight away rather than having to browse through the menu options).

The other "Office" is within BMW Online and you have to pre-configure this via the ConnectedDrive portal on the internet. Essentially you can setup connections via ConnectedDrive to Google Mail (or any email that supports POP/IMAP) and when you then go to BMW Online within idrive, you can find Office and then your email is listed. This method is a bit of a pain and takes a while to get to/load up if you're on the move, you need constant access to the internet for this to work properly. Shortcuts are limited to only being able to create a shortcut to BMW Online itself.

Thanks for this info. I've been using your second version... Can I use the first option or is that EBT reliant???

I think it probably does rely on EBT, the enhanced part being the thing that sends text and emails from the phone to the idrive via Bluetooth.

You could try it though, here's a post I wrote a while back whilst struggling to get email working in idrive from an iPhone 5, you could maybe go through this and see if it helps (there is a section that deals with setting up Bluetooth in idrive), see how far you get: http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=895090

I think EBT can be coded and hence emails should work?

@ll71 knows all about the problems with the new touch iDrive with which you do need to spec EBT for all the functions.

What phone do you have?

You need EBT coded to the car to get Email the way you want it. It won't work any other way. EBT is light years from the ConnectedOffice way. To make it clear there is Office and ConnectedOffice on the new HU_NBT iDrive. Anything under ConnectedOffice works with the cars built in 3G SIM card. EBT works direct through your smartphone and the phone has to support BT MAP (message access protocol) to work with this.

I'm not 100% sure it works properly via Apple products either, it will work with all Blackberries and some Android phones OS dependent.

If you have a July 2013 F30, EBT is an option. Pre-July 2013 EBT (BT MAP) is a standard part of BT. BMW like to charge us extra now.

Also, you can't go to BMW and get them to retrofit it. You can however code it yourself or get someone else to do it for you.

Thanks ll71
I have an iPhone 5 so that could be an issue too. It's not vital that I have email access but i thought it might be nice if i could get it to work. I can always pull over or wait until i get to my destination...it's not the end of the world.
It's a real shame that BMW won't offer this as a service especially as lots of people don't realise they need it until they get their car.
thanks once again

You can quite easily code EBT, only takes a few minutes.
