M235i Order Question

Hi All,

I'm working with David on an ED for mid-September for an M235i and I'm a little confused about the upholstery options. The Pricing Guide shows SensaTec as a no charge option and Leather as a $1450USD upgrade. However, none of the SensaTec/Leatherette color choices are listed as available i.e. no little 'x' next to the color choice. Is this a mistake?

Look under the Dakota Leather thread where this was already discussed.

I looked at all of the thread with Dakota and Leather but didn't see anything that answered my specific question. Can you throw me a link? Thanks

For the M235i the only sensatec option is the black sensatec. The 228i can have other types of sensatec (i think i saw black with red stitching).

Yes its dumb the M235i has less options

Hmmm, I'm still not convinced that SensaTec is an option at all. The 228i Coupe section of the order guide explicitly lists SensaTec as an upholstery option along with leather. I checked the 2014 4 Series ordering guide and it's the same; Leatherette is explicitly listed as an upholstery option.

I guess I'll have to wait for the official 2 Series unveiling in January to find out.

Interesting. I just got a response from my SA regarding the upholstery issue. The ordering guide does not mention any SensaTec for the M235i. My SA checked the order system and it only shows the 4 leathers and all orders that my SA has received include the Premium Package, ZPP, which includes leather.

ZPP for the M235i has an MSRP of $2300 and includes:
319 Universal garage-door opener
322 Comfort Access keyless entry <-- This is the only thing I *might* want
430 Auto-dimming interior and exterior mirrors
431 Auto-dimming rearview mirror
563 Ambiance lighting
655 Satellite radio with 1 year subscription
LC Leather Dakota

Option 322 is not available outside of ZPP but I don't know much else about this. I did a search and it appears that the only thing it does is allow remote start and trunk opening. Can anyone out there explain this option more?

Back to leather ...
I can't believe BMW would charge $1450 for leather upholstery if there were no other options. What would happen if I didn't chose a particular color of leather? I guess the order would be rejected.

Oh well, good thing we've got time!

A good leather jacket could run you $1,500. We're wrapping a vehicle here gentlemen. All things relative I personally don't feel that that's an egregious ask. But I understand why some may prefer a different material or a need to cut costs. I've always felt (If properly taken care of) the BMW leathers hold up well over time and are worth the money.

Re: 322, I have it on my 335is and you simply touch the handle to open the door and touch a single finger to lock. You do not need to have your keys, they only need to be around you. Same goes for trunk access. It also know your settings if you have multiple drivers so you hear the interior prepare itself as you touch the handle. I'm my 335is the seatbelt is "handed" to you on a extended and retracting bar contraption. (This may be the case with all coupes, so please excuse my ignorance if that's standard)

Sidebar: The ambient lighting is quite cool and classy. It gives a nice hue to the interior at night so you can see without having to turn on a spotlight.

Is it needed, no, cool, yes. I find myself touching other cars door handles and getting upset when nothing happens ;-) I hope that's what you were asking.

It's not the cost so much as it's not clear from the order guide or price guide. To me, it appears that BMW is pushing ZPP with which one gets CA, auto-dimming mirrors, etc. Just seems dishonest.

Haha!

I'm resigned to adding ZPP to my order but now we're approaching ED cost for the CLA45 AMG (MB waives the destination charge).

Just perused this post quickly, but here's my 2 cents worth. If you're going to order an M235i, by golly get it in leather - forget about leatherette or Sensatec or whatever they want to call it. Comfort access is a really nice option - no need to carry around the key fob in your hands - just beware that like any keyless entry system, thieves can read your security code (which is constantly broadcasting) - but not to worry, if they want to steal your car they will (can always use a laptop as an alternative, etc.), so don't worry about this concern. Ambient interior lighting is an absolute amazing thing to have.

Looks like the online configuration tool has been fixed and it is no longer necessary to order leather :-) If only we could order the M235i without the Dynamic Handling Package and save another $1k on another option that I don't want.

I'm glad they've corrected the 2 series configurator. It appears you can also get anti-theft now. Too bad I decided to order a 435i, M Sport of course. Still with David.

Actually, they still haven't finished correcting the configurator yet. It always allowed you to get anti-theft on the M235i. It wouldn't let you add it to the 228i (even though it's available as an option for the 228i on the ordering guide), and it has yet to be fixed.
