Better quality sound input
Been searching for days now for an answer and can't find one-
How can I get better sound quality from my iPhone to my car?? The aux in is absolutely awful. I have a 2007 328xi w/ Logic 7 and ONLY the aux in in the center console. No other inputs. Is there ANY retrofit that will give me better quality? |

USB will give the best quality in my opinion
Ok its not iphone.
Also are your source iphone files high bit rate files? USB will give the best quality in my opinion well at least most directly affordable. Not sure playing the iphone through the BMW iphone retrofit will increase your sound quality as it uses the aux for music and the usb for song data. But playing from usb gives digital in. If you have idrive you are limited to a factory retrofit for 6fl or something like the Dension 500s bt *6fl is described in the bluetooth sticky at the top of the page . Or do a search for 6fl in the forum. I think the Dension uses its own aux and usb for iphone but is has wireless music streaming to. 6fl =usb If you have the pro radio There is a new pro radio offered in Europe that has USB , HD Radio and bluetooth built in . ( it requires some programming to install it.) You have to get the Most Bus Version. You can also go the Dension , Mobridge route with the pro radio. If you want to go aftermarket radio with and l7 system the rest of the system needs to be replaced , amp and speakers or at least amp. Last edited by ctuna; 12-24-2013 at 07:43 PM.. |

The files are 320 kb/s so it's not the audio quality. Ideally it would play from a USB so I can get the digital in.
I have pro radio. Do you have a link to the new Euro version? Is it a DIY installation or, for that matter, can it be retrofitted with USB and HD radio? |

It has usb and hd built in.
It has usb and hd is built in on the new radio.
There are a few in the US that have done it already. There was a guy on ebay selling them for abut 450. The ones with Most Bus he was selling non Most for 300 His add doesn't seem to be up any more though. Makkann00 in London had one for sale don't know it has most bus or not. Also he knows how to program them in. The following link describes what you need. Putting the radio in is easy but some of the attached stuff looks a little more involved(microphone for bluetooth phone) as is the programming for and older car. Also I am not sure what happens to SOS or existing bluetooth phone or when you already have these. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=687463 Last edited by ctuna; 12-25-2013 at 01:48 PM.. |

It not the cable its the electronics or your source unit.

There is a long history of reports on this forum about the low quality of the aux input . This is further aggravated by the base or Hi Fi system . Don't know about the L7 cause I haven't heard it but I think it would be a bit better. |

L7 here and aux is perfect. Better than radio quality or cd. More base and crisp. I now use a Bluetooth streamer and isn't as nearly good but you cannot really tell. Not distorted at all and still a good base sound

Just an update for the aux in-
I know sometimes the problem is because the audio jack on the phone puts out a lower quality sound but I've tried using aux input with a Xitel MP3 streamer and hooking it up to the USB on my laptop but it comes out just as badly, even with .flac audio files or 320 kb/s songs. |
