Xenons/Adaptive lights aftermarket fitting

Has anyone successfully installed Xenons on a non xenon F30 car?

I have Xenons with high beam but not adaptive.. all this talk about the dancing lights is making me jealous even though my driving is 99% city driving.. Wondering if it is possible to convert the light or what would it take to get the dancing lights?

They will be completely different headlight units and a cost of knocking £2k in parts alone.

And a new rear view mirror with the camera in it, and probably a different windscreen, and a different light control module etc.

Totally not worth the hassle or cost for something you'll probably hardly ever use. Much better things to spend money on

I have the camera in the rear view mirror which is the High Beam Assist, was thinking as I already have xenons the same light control module could be re-programmed..

You know what matey, you spoke the words out of my mouth.. Who needs them when they live in london, no street without lights.. I would probably do a night drive in a motor way once in a moon time.. Thanks for the advice..

If it wasn't for the sales persons being away for a week, on the week before my car was built I had the intentions of adding them to my spec and it would only have costed an extra £60 bux...

You didn't say that you have high beam assistant!

It could well be as simple as changing headlights and coding!

Still won't be cheap though, unless you manage to find a second hand pair of adaptive headlights and sell yours, then it shouldn't be too bad! You should get £400-500 each for yours complete.

A indie bmw specialist I know has told me that as well as the above you will need to change a particular ecu and the indicator stalk. The Ecu alone will cost circa £1000.

You should have just specced it in the first place....... is what I said to myself when I looked into it last month as I am in exactly the same boat as you

Something to spec next time round.

Since your car is spec'd with high beam assist, then your xenon should be dancing albeit not in London as they're street lights everywhere. From my knowledge, adaptive lighting help drivers see better on dark, curved and hilly roads by casting the beams and activating individual fog lights.

While the dancing lights means high beam assist or am I loosing it?!

You can have high beam assistant without adaptive xenons. They work the same as the E90, just dip when oncoming traffic.

As I have High Beam Assist, the indicator stick already has the switch for auto beam which is the same as the one used with adaptive.. Honestly I dont think its worth the hassle and like you said should have specced it but if it hadn't been for this for I would have never known about the dancing lights..

the issue i had is my sales man was pretty naive with little production knowledge, when i added the m sport plus package + high beam assist he never mentioned i could add the adaptive lights for £60 extra.. the configurator shows the visibility pack at full price when you add the M Sport +, although it does adjust at a later stage..

Anyways, xenons are pretty powerful and do the job theyre supposed to do well..

The high beam only comes on and off as a whole.. just like the e90... when you have the adaptive lights, it becomes variable beam, so one comes off while the other is off or both on/off... with adaptive you also get the fog light turning with the steering.. wish bmw could train their staff before to advice customers properly when ordering...
