Fuel filler flap not latching closed

Anybody else had this fault...discovered it this am whilst washing the car...the fuel filler flap doesn't latch closed....on locking the car, it locks ok but it still protrudes more than it should do and on unlocking car the flap springs open meaning I have to manually push it in every time I unlock the car. No doubt it'll have to be a trip to the stealers....most annoying.

i had a problem similar to this on my previous F30.
but i don't think the fuel filler flap latches at all.
the press button to open the flap inside, is either open (forward) or closed (back).
the flap returns to the closed position under some form of spring tension and then locks with the central locking.

with my previous F30, the lanyard attached to the fuel cap was twisting getting in the way, causing the flap to stick forward.
try seeing it that is in the way of the flap from closing?

either that, or maybe the spring pulling the flap back into place has been bent or dislodged?

sorry to hijack this thread, but its almost on topic

I am worried about getting a denzil for the first time ever, i am programmed to get unleaded (been getting it for 18 odd years!) just wondering if BMW have a saftey system so that you can't put petrol in a diesel? I know you can't do it the other way.

I googled and can see some misfueling system but does that include UK market? ie for idiotic moments that I'm sure I could manage

You can't put diesel in a petrol easily because the diesel nozzle is wider than the petrol filler neck but that doesn't stop the other way around, but you won't misfuel because:

a) it's impossible to forget you're in a diesel 3 series because of the fucking racket.

b) It says "DIESEL" in big letters on the filler cap

c) despite 18 years of programming, you'll still be conscious of the change each time you pull into a petrol station

d) you're not an idiot

He's probably sold the car by now considering that post was nearly 3 years ago

Or perhaps he did fill it with petrol and hasn't been seen since.
