Goodbye M3 (E92 DCT). Hello 335d!
Picked up the new car yesterday and so far so good.
Highlights: Xdrive - my word this is impressive. You can get on the power SO early out of bends / roundabouts / out of junctions. I live in scotland and we out fair share of wet roads. Very happy with this so far. HK stereo - click the L7 surround, nudge the equalizer up a bit, put on a good CD, turn up load and ..... Wow Gearbox - (appears) as fast as the DCT on the M3 .... and that was fast Engine - it's still early days, but I would say there is a bit of turbo lag (to be expected I suppose) but after that half second or so, whoosh, it pulls nicely. Got it in sport mode if that makes any difference. Looking forward to exploring the engine more (of course need to be cognisant that it's fresh/tight/needs run in a bit) Interior - fresh compared to my E92 Lowlights: Sound- Probably being a bit harsh here, but it sounds a bit rough, even though I am fully aware it's a diesel (!) I still have V8 in my ears and I'm sure I'll adjust. No lumbar support - honestly very annoyed by this. My back seems to sink in to the chair and, save for buying an aftermarket effort, I'm stuck with it. Not something I thought about when specc'ing. Overall, a very different driving experience that the M but I'm warming very much to it. Can't get over the amazing traction. That's all for now! |

Good to hear you like your new 335d, welcome to the club
I know what you mean about the seats. They are a lot better than the E90, but if you suffer from back problems, your lower back sinks into them and you will get back ache. I got a back ache with them within a few days. There is nothing wrong with the seats at all, my missus dont have any problems with them, its just me. I ordered lumber on my old E90 and it didnt help - so I didnt bother ordering it on the F30. My solution for back ache, a cushion behind my lower back. Not very elegant, but I'd have to honestly sell the car if I didnt as I wouldnt be able to drive it for long. Its still not perfect now, the seats need to fiddling with to get them right, but I'll get there. With my old car, I could get bad back ache within 5 mins without support - but get it right, and I could drive 3-4 hours without any problems at all.

Awesome car and cracking M3 there.
You'll love the torque once you've got out of the habit of not revving the nuts off it.

Not really true, there is no adjustable lumber support. The lumber support is there, just fixed.

It was tough, especially as it was a good example. However life goes on and Ive always admired the 335d. And when the xdrive option arrived I thought I would take the plunge.
Dopper- I think it's a genuine ball-drop on BMWs part. Especially when there electric bolster adjustment! |

Appreciate it's early days but any more thoughts on how the engines compare? The M3 is evidently faster and presumably more visceral but the 335d is no slouch. I presume it makes things a little more 'relaxed' whilst still being pretty punchy?

The first 335d I've been envious of! Up until now I've not seen any F31s and contented myself with the fact that when I ordered our 330d xDrive there was no 335.
Seeing yours in the same colour as ours with the 403s make me wish I'd been more patient. Enjoy. |

So glad I specced it! It's so comfortable, electric; heated with lumbar support were absolute must for me.

I really like the look of the f31. So much so ive pondered changing my F30 order to an F31.
I dont even need the extra space! Lol. Glad your enjoying the car and love the M3. I almost bought one before placing an order for the 335d. |

Damn it, beaten. The first 335d touring!
Nah it looks ace, I cannot wait to pick up mine this week and this just gets me even more excited. You can hardly see the ride height difference in these pics. I had an M3 18 months ago too and though I miss the noise you will soon love not having to stop at every petrol station!!! First car I've noticed without the black panel display too, The mpg gauge looks just fine. 3 miles though! Great, I'm getting nervous as i know this is the first 335d my dealership has had, it better not have many miles on it!!!! |

Standard 335d xdrive with M Sport + Nice and simple! Clearly didn't do enough research though...should I have gone for the adaptive? Suspension seems fine. Not exactly race like but pretty good. Rides bumps well too. |
