My 316i glacier silver sport & I saying hi

Hi all

I've being lurking/reading the forum since March 2013 when I first bought the now love of my life BMW.Before that I'd never owned a BMW and drove a 2010 1.8 tdci Mondeo.

Although I read through the posts most days Ive never noticed anyone even mention the 316i (appologies to anyone who has infact touched the subgect). So I just thought I'd give my impression.

I've owned it around 8 months and although coming from a diesel it took a while to get used to the different power delivery now that I am I love it.Its only a 1.6 litre but I find it pleanty quick enough for me with an 8.5 sec 0-60mph.

Its beautifuly built and IMO a stunner to look at.The only extras I went for was the lumber support and aluminium trim to loose the red stripe from the dash which didn't appeal to me.

Its only got the black cloth seats but again its of an excellent quality and I could never imagine it stretching or looking shabby,it really does look nice.

I'm only a low milage short run around town driver but am very impressed by the mpg.Managed to get 58mpg on a 20 mile trip recently not hanging around iether and am averaging about 36 around town

I've read so much on here (and really enjoy it) about the larger engine capicity cars that I thought I would just pass on my observations, after all at £25000 otr list price for what you get I think the 316i is a bargin and shouldn't be overlooked.

Look forward to a bit of banter.

Hi Addsy,

I'm just speccing my car at the moment, will be my first BMW as well - I don't think you will find anyone snobby here about engine size etc.

I've found the advice here very useful, I may not take it all but that's my issue.

My experience is that the F30 is a great car and as long as you're happy, that's the main thing. After all, only you know what you want from a car!

Hope it treats you well!

Saj

Hi mate.

You dont need a big engine to enjoy a car. Its about the overall package IMO.

As long as you like it (and it seems like you do) then nowt else matters.

Nice one, I'm sure it will be the first of many. 8.5 sec is well quick and you have exactly the same car as the top of the range at the end of the day

You are very welcome on here @Addsy.
It good to hear experiences with regards all F3x's and the main thing is you are enjoying your car.
As said, the performance isn't too shabby are there are many a 2.0 engine of other marques that would be envious of that performance.

58mpg sounds pretty good to me, I've been taking things carefully in mine and I managed 50 max (it's a diesel).

Any phots? Not seen any recent silver for a while, I used to have an E46 in silver

No probs, when you create a new post, just above the white text box you will see a load of icons, look for one with a red plus sign (you can hover over these icons to see what they do, the red plus sign icon should say "attachments"), click this and you will get another window whereby you can browse a picture from your computer and upload to the post (top section of the new window). If you have multiple phots you should notice that the new popup window several "browse" buttons so you can add several images and then click upload.

Once you have uploaded, you can preview the post before you submit, there is a preview button next to the submit button underneath the white text box.

Bear in mind, website images are 72dpi, so if you take pictures straight from your camera they may look huge on the page, if so then try to reduce the resolution a bit if you can (saves disk space on the forums websevers anyway).

Glad your pleased, sounds a nice car.

My mate has just got a 316d SE in silver and absolutely loves it, he was slightly nervous about power but has said a month into ownership he is chuffed to bits.

Enjoy.

Hi Addsy

Great to hear from a 316i owner. I too am looking to buy my very first BMW, actually my very first car. It is very reassuring to know that you find the engine doesn't feel underpowered. As it is a turbo do you have to rev it hard to get power out of it or is it ok on low revs for normal driving?

I would also like to get your opinion on the Anthracite/ track cloth interior. Does it give you a luxury/ high quality feel in the interior or do you wish you had paid the extra for leather? I don't have the budget for it so not sure if The cloth interior would feel nice? Would love some pictures of the interior.

Hi all

I've tried to upload some pictures but they're too big and as yet haven't got the hang of how to resize them.

As far as the anthracite grey track cloth interior goes to me it ticks all the boxes, looks and feels top notch. It reminds me of the material a scuba divers suite is made from. The BMW configurator gives a very accurate picture of them IMO.I certainly haven't regretted not going for leather but then again I'm not that fussed on leather.

What I would say is though its poles appart from leather so if its leather you fancy,go for it.

Right click on your pictures.select edit with which ever compatible programme you have installed.

At the top of the screen you will see a resize option.

The engine dosen't feel underpowered at all,its silky smooth through the gears driving normally, select a lower gear, apply presure to the accelerater and the power delivery is superb you dont notice the turbo kick in at all its just a straight smooth whoosh take off,as i say it IMO dosen't leave you disapointed at all and feals more powerful than you'd expect for a 1.6.
By theway I drive it sports mode as the eco and comfort dont cut it for me.

Hi Addsy,

Looking at getting a 316i sport myself, also from Cleveland (Billingham) as well.

Now you have had the car a bit longer, just wondered what MPG you are getting and are you still enjoying it.

Driving around town I'm getting 33-35 mpg but on a recent run to the Metro Centre about 80 mile round trip it averaged out at 56mpg according to the idrive journey computer.Although not exceeding the speed limit I wasn't hanging around either.
Yeah I absolutely love the car,for a 1.6 its nice and nippy (lot better than the car it replaced my 1.8 tdci Mondeo and that wasn't a slouch) and it pulls really well.Drop a gear and boot it and it takes off.It feels really free revving and as smooth as silk.Engine sounds nice.I think its quicker 0-60 than the e90 318 which is a 2.0L I believe.
I really like the sports trim although I replaced the red dash board strip with the piano black and went with the aluminium trim.Love the seat material too early days but still looks tight and doesn't look like it will sag or stretch. The sports seats (went with the lumber support) are nice and comfortable,I like the feel of the sports steering wheel as well.
Hope this helps you Z3.

Regarding engne sizes and outputs :
I was sorely tempted by a F31 318d sport before I actually bought the 325d M-sport, test drove and discussed figures on the 318d, etc. Even though the 325d has something like 50% more BHP, the 318d didn't feel underpowered in any way, shape or form.

If it suits you, then it's the perfect car. Stuff what others think

Says ur mpg combined is around 44ish I think it was so ur saying for most part that's pretty spot on? Unusual for the quoted figures to be hit in the real world.
