New MINI gets rev-matching manual - will the 2?

Anyone know for sure? I have seen no reference to it so I guess not. BMW may save it for a mid-cycle refresh. Too bad.

Agreed, like Stop/Start and DTC, just another thing to turn off each time I get in the car.

It's just offering more choice, don't see the big problem here, you can still choose to heel/toe if you want to, but of course that won't stop the "purists" from getting their panties in a knot. In the Vette and the Z it's not something you have to turn off every time you start up - your choice persists over shutdowns.

Whether or not the rev matching exists on the manual isn't a big deal or me.

I find the stop/start stuff idiotic.

It's really not that annoying for me. Just avoid putting it in neutral and releasing the clutch when you're at a stop.

If you are going to do so however, you just have to hit a button. Not a big deal..

There has to be something that you can set in the car's memory - otherwise, this is just moronic

You can have the dealer set it to last setting and auto stop start stays off (there are all kinds of threads on this). It doesn't bother me at all on our X1.

The computer knows what speed you are going and when you select a gear, it then knows what RPM the engine will need to be at that speed - it automatically adjusts the throttle to the correct RPM for when you let out the clutch.

I've tried it out on the Nissan 370Z, it works well and would undoubtedly make for faster times at the track. That said, there's just something gratifying about a well executed heel-toe throttle blip before a downshift, so like the A.S.S., I'd be turning it off in most all situations

I wonder why purists hate that device so much as long as you can turn it off I have no problems with it. Also it make it easier at the track for the one not too familiar with heel and toe downshift.

That's pretty cool. I'm up for anything that's going to help go faster.

Does the auto stop / start effect manual transmission too?

Most of the 370z manual drivers really like the "Synchro Rev" feature. Yes you become a bit lazy but perfect downshifts landed every time is sweet exhuast noise to your ears

I had 370z and rev matching was so sweet. Since i could not heel and toe perfectly it was nice. Also ladies dont like bumps when shifting gears at low speed so that was also +1.
I always tried to learn when driving myslef, but it is still nice to have it as long as it can be disabled by push of button

I had a 1 series manual rental car with off/on once. It turned off in neutral with the clutch out and started as soon as you press the clutch. I got to like it. If it turned off when the car stopped in 1st I would be very annoyed. DSC however gets turned off ASAP every time.

I never keep my manual in neutral and always keep the clutch in at stop lights so I guess it would never engage.

It also blips the throttle when down shifting right?
