Black, Silver, or White Brake Calipers
I have an alpine white 2008 BMW 335i sports package. Calipers are oxidizing/rusting. Should I paint the calipers black, silver, or white? I'm thinking a decal that has BMW logo or or M colored stripes. Any cons to any particular color? Anyone with pictures showing what it looks like?
These calipers in white with M decal looks nice: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...=245337&page=2 and http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=505893

If you have stock calipers then I suggest get them painted black with BMW decal on it.

I did mine in aluminum with a satin clear.
You cannot see it in my crappy phone camera pics, but I put silver BMW decals on the rattle clips and then gloss cleared it. It was hard to see the decals even in person, till I cleared it. Doesn't really scream for attention, but you'll see it if you saw it in person. And that's how I wanted it. What I like about the decals is you can do multiple rattle clips in other color combination. Gonna order black decals and put it against another silvered out rattle clip, as well as paint black a set of rattle clips, with silver decals. |

I did exactly that, looks great and OEM. Definitely a dramatic improvement over the rust. Nearly a $60,000 car and BMW can't be bothered to paint or coat the calipers or rotor hubs so they don't become gross and rusty. Ridiculous.

I'd not recommend it. I painted my black and it looks much better. If you paint it white they will get covered in brake dust in no time, making them look pretty ugly again

Ok so white is out.
I guess I'm between black and silver. I've also considered blue (bad idea?). I don't want ricey/cheap look. If silver, is there a specific metallic silver that would compliment the 162 style wheels?

I vote Blue if you don't have any red accents.

Thank you! I actually have seen few examples of blue calipers on white car. Do you happen to have far away picture to see the front and rear blue contrast with the white? :-)

You mean combination of blue and silver or you tried both? Do you have a preference between the two (I'm assuming alpine white bmw)?

The calipers were torn apart as my car is a 325i and these calipers are 335i calipers. Wasn't too keen on using the G2 brush on stuff as I heard it makes a "hard protective shell " I do not want a shell around the calipers. Also the reason why I didn't powdercoat. Bead blasted to bare metal, painted with VHT primer, base and satin clear exhaust paint and then a series of baking the paint, cooling and baking at higher temps (took it all the way to 650f) to really toughen it up. Then I rebuilt it with new seals and boots. Trust me, this was not a job where a garbage bag was layed all around the caliper and than the whole thing gets sprayed or a brush on job. Beadblasting left the surface a bit rough, so I knocked it down with a disc Last edited by Casca; 12-03-2013 at 10:51 PM.. |
