Who knows DMEs
hey guys long story short I've locked up my DME (flashed with the wrong sw version using OFT) and it wont let it write again, Error is "DME number Mismatching, Cannot Write to DME". wont even communicate with INPA, nothing nada (wedgeperformance helped to reflash, it wont talk)...
Now is there a way anyone of you guys can suggest to just erase everything on there ... or maybe I shd shutup and get it towed to the dealer... Shiv fwd'd the OFT log to his team to come up with some idea but I'm just throwing it out there for anyone previously bit by this situation |

You bricked it? Ouch.
Talk to Ken (wedge), this is going to be a PITA to be honest.

BT cable sounds like the best bet, though I won't pretend to know how one goes about force writing to the DME.
Not surprising the SA was clueless.

Order the BT cable and let Ken work his magic. No other solutions. Shiv will tell you the same thing.

well its vin protected you'll have to go to the stealer to get it vin coded to your car, $3300 ... I talked to an indy shop that claims using the same bmw cloud software that dealership uses, $220 to see if he can wipe and restore ... rightnow its shipped out to Shiv ... I almost got off the road with my wife's car, so used to the bumm-er

I'm surprised you say this. We do stand by our product. But we cannot account for misuse of our product. Likewise, since you purchased the OFT in the used market, we can't even be sure that it was configured correctly before you used it. Also, the programming logs that you sent us (upon request) dont indicate a anything that could cause a complete lack of communication. Even writing a invalid ROM (bad patch) would not cause the complete lack of functioning that we saw. Furthermore, we offered to arrange to have the DME recovered by a BDM tool which would fix the issue if it was indeed a programming caused error. All you would pay for is shipping. You declined this offer the last we talked and instead leaned towards purchasing a whole new dme. We have done everything we can to get u back up and running and we hope you don't end up having to pay for a new DME. I hate paying the dealership for overpriced goods.

lol dude you ****** up your car by not following clear instructions and now you are trying to blame Shiv when he obviously has gone way above in service to help with getting your fixed.
Let alone with the fact you purchased the product 2nd hand and not directly from them. Doesn't the latest version of the open flash tablet prevent this from happening? |

just a note, it's pretty common practice to only warranty the original purchaser of products. The fact that Shiv spent his time without asking for payment to assist someone who bought a 2nd hand product is going above and beyond IMO.

Instead of "Do you really want to enable boost on fuel" ... more useful to put a warning "BIN DOESNT MATCH DME SOFTWARE VERSION, F*** off Fix it First" |

While I agree the product isn't the most polished, and has a learning curve and is dangerous in the wrong hands, the instructions are pretty clear.
Most other flashers I've used for other cars are dead simple, load the tune on the device, plug it into the car and flash, almost no room for user error. But then again most of those cars are not as complex as the N54 with its multiple software versions that are constantly changing. Might be a good time to put in a future software update Startup screen 5 seconds Warning DME flashing carries inherent risk, proceed with caution. Then you could also sneak in a fix for that TERRIBLE background image that belongs in the 90s. I mean there are probably 1000 people on the forums who could design something modern and sleek in photoshop for FREE, you should hold a contest winner gets a free custom tune.
