4 series with kids.
My car will be a daily driver with occasion grade school age transport for two. It is a pain to get kids in and out of your 4 series? I'm really looking at the 2, but I just don't know if it will be a wise choice even though I don't transport my kids that much. car is mostly for work.

i had a 4 and 6 year old in the back when i had my e92, and it wasnt bad at all. they loved it. assuming the f32 is bigger, then you shouldnt have any problem at all. not sure about the 2er though.
oh, it is a big help if they are able to buckle themselves in. that way, you dont have to stretch back and help them.

No real problems in my previous E92, I have one child (7) and she can buckle herself in (she could also operate the electric seat to move it forward for better access before I had a chance to supervise and take charge of the situation!). I also only used it occasionally for family and mostly for work, once they are in there's plenty of room, I would assume the 4 series is roughly the same.

I have a 6 year old. There is plenty of room in the back. I might even venture to say it feels bigger than my e90. The only pain is if they can't buckle themselves in you have to climb in back every time.

the 4 has a lot of room in the back...in fact, my 4 has more legroom than my wife's infiniti ex35 SUV which is a 4 door 5 seater, believe it or not...the doors are long and front seats recline forward enough to make exit and entry very easy
of course your best bet is to go and see one in person |

I was really wanting a 4er, but with 2 young kids (2.5 yrs and a 11 month old) I had to opt for the f30 for the car seat. But like everyone mentioned, as long as you have a grade school child then it shouldn't affect you as much. Good luck!

I had two toddlers when I had my E93, and whilst it wasn't as convenient as a 4 door, it really wasn't much of a problem getting them in and out.
Indeed, having the kids on board was a bonus, as I could park in mother and baby bays and thus be able to open the enormous doors without either dinking the car next to me or having to be a contortionist to get out of the car (for those of you that are Stateside, UK parking bays are a bit on the narrow side).

If you don't transport the kids often, and your wife is okay with getting a 4-series, then it's a no-brainer. End of discussion.

We have two children and a 435, no issues with getting in and out yet. Fair amount of room in the back.
4 door would be better for adults in the back, but totally fine for kids. Regards, CJ |

My 6 (almost 7) year old had no leg issues in the back of the 4 either, and my seat was in a comfortable spot (being 6'4"). My 2 year old, now being in a standard secured car seat, I always found a coupe easier to put the kids into since you are basically putting them in from the front of the seat, as opposed to reaching around from the side. If I had a child still in one of those removable infant type seats where you carry them around, I probably wouldnt go for a coupe, Id wait it out until they were in a standard child seat. My Volvo C30 didnt even fit the removable kid seat...

one is out of the seat and the other is almost in a booster. I love the looks of the 4 but leaning towards the 2 series. I just think the 228i Msport will be a real treat in a better price range. Might even go for the m235i. I think it boils down to final numbers. if 4s are going to be discounted more in the summer I may go for the 428i. There isn't going to be much dealing on the 2 as it will be new.

you'll be fine.

Can't speak to kids in a 4-series specifically, but my honest answer as someone who grew up riding in a lot of 2+2 coupe backseats (thanks dad!): it kind of sucks even as a small kid. Sorry just being honest. My dad would rotate through various cars depending on conditions / season and we always looked forward to when he would put the coupes away for the summer because, frankly, we liked four doors and having room and not feeling like we were "stuck" in the back and being able to get in and out without having to wait for seats to move etc. -- it was just a pain. Now don't let that necessarily deter your purchasing decision -- maybe it will just inspire your kids to torture their own kids with coupes, carrying on the family tradition
