HELP Front grills wont come off.

Hey all im trying to Plastidip my front grills (06 325i) and the top chrome pieces wont come off my hood. The Parts that you use a t-20. Im using a t-20 extension on a 1/4 wrench. and a couple bolts are just spinning not coming off. Like its stripped. Its not allowing either pieces to come off the hood. the driver side one is stuck on by the driver side bolt. The passenger grill is stuck on by the middle bolt and the passenger side bolt. Whats weird is the bolts that did come out have or did have what looks like some blue, possibly adhesive, stuff. Im guessing its adhesive because idk why these other bolts wont come through. Im pissed im not an idiot and have wrenched on a lot more than a damn grill piece. Some one help please!!

Thanks

If you are gonna Plastidip them, why not save all the trouble and just leave them on the car.

I used a screwdriver and forced it between the two plastic pieces to create some down force for the screw to thread out. Worded perfectly and no breaking of anything to get them out.

That's a common problem and you don't need to cut anything. It happened to me also, here is quote of what i did.

What you need to do is remove the "chrome" piece from the plastic piece. The part is 2 piece. If you can get one corner up from the that hole piece you can start to remove the the "chrome". It's only clipped to that plastic piece.

Once you get the "chrome" away, Then you can hold the nut in place with pliers and get the screw of. Also the plastic piece is very soft plastic, so you can broke it by twisting it. This way you should get the part away. Hope this helps.
Be careful that you don't scratch the hood, if you need more help ask away.

yah its funny you pulled this up as I pulled that old thread from the dead because its the same problem

So basically I need to get a small screw driver from the top of the hood (top of grill) pushing down and pop the tabs so the chrome pops out? going to go carefully try this lol.

wow that was WAY easier than I thought it was going to be lol

first coat is drying!!!

update: Coat 2; so I just applied the second coat and it looks like I kinda messed up on the bottom chrome parts the ones that clip off the black grill you pull out roughly lol

So I didn't get the inside of the U style chrome piece and the second coat I just filled it in nicely. Now it looks like theres slight small small bubbles on them after I put the 2nd coat? we'll see here in 30mins

Do you paint your black grill black along with the chrome trim? Seems like if your grills are already black just leave um and paint other parts? Please advise! Thank you!
