Pricing prediction for my F80 M3

So....my prediction. It's been widely reported that they wanted to keep the car close to the outgoing model. The difference in 2011 E93 to 2013 E93 was $1,500. I bumped up another $500 from there. I bet I'm within $1,500

2011 M3 Sedan $55,900
Adjust for std. Nav $2,150
Adjust for 2014 MY $2,000
Starting base price $60,050

Metallic Paint $550 Same as 3/4
Lighting Package $1,900 Same as 3/4
Exec Package $3,900 Est from 550 Exec, similar
Harmon Kardon $850 Same as 3/4
MDCT $2,500 Est.
Side / Top view $750 Same as 3/4/5
Adaptive
Suspension $1,000 Same as 3/4
19" Wheels $900 Same as 3/4
Options
Summary $12,350

Total w/o Carbon Ceramics
$72,400

Total w/ est. Ceramics $81,900

Debating the ceramics. They look the biz, perform superbly but honestly, the car won't get tracked so it's very hard to justify the $10k.

Well, I'm out there....let's see where I end up.

Looks like reasonable estimates. The DCT however was a ~$3k option on the E9X and will likely not be cheaper on the F80. We now also have the CF roof as a standard. Could be another ~$2k adjustment on top of the 2011 E90.

CCB is IMO absolutely nuts if you aren't going to track the car ( Given that the standard breaks are still cross drilled M specific breaks ). As visual and aural bling goes you'll get more bang for the same buck with individual paint and the BMW M performance or an Akra exhaust IMO.

Thanks for the info on the DCT. I looked for pricing but couldn't find it. For $3k, ill row my own and grab some individual paint as you noted.

I hear you on the CF roof but don't think it'll move the needle that much.

Time will tell.

I think I'll go with DCT, then get individual paint/interior depending on Sonoma Beige.

I don't think the CF roof will move the price point much, if at all, considering the coupe got one previously, and the price delta between coupe and sedan was fairly equal amongst M's and non-M's. If the CCB's are 10k I'm DEFINITELY passing. My self-imposed price cap is $70-72k. Whatever doesn't fit within that price cap just......won't!

I hope actual customer order package is different that of dealer order. There are things in exec package that I dont want (heated steering, rear view camera, hud, headlight washer). Removing those should save few thousands from order.

Here's information from my 2011 E90 M3's sticker to get you more exact numbers for the E90:

Base msrp: $55,400
Metallic: $550
Convinience pkg: $2,900
-Alarm
- Comfort access
- Park distance cntrl
- Ipod and USB adapter
- Nav.
- Voice command
Cold weather pkg: $1,000
- Split fold rear seat
- Heated front seats
- Headlight washers
Premium pkg 2: $2,500
- Power folding mirrors
- Universal garage opener
- CF trim / Novillo Leather
- Mirror compass
- Power front seats
- BMW assist
M- DCT: $2,900
19" Wheels: $1,250
Moonroof: $1,050
Auto high beams: $250
Satellite radio: $350
Enhanced premium sound: $1,900
Destination charge: $875
Gas Guzzler: $1,300

Total msrp: $72,225

Note that this does not include a $1,900 LED package, HUD, EDC, full leather or rear, side, top view camera from the F80 build. It does have the gas guzzler tax to offset some of it though. Still my guess is that your build will likely be slightly north of $75k without CCBs or Individual paint. And I think the F80 will be MY2015. That's four years of inflation, unfortunately. But then the S65 is likely $10k or so more expensive per unit than the S55. We'll see.

Can get brembo for cheaper (initial and maintenance). Better bang for buck?

I think the new mperf exhaust will be made by akra already.

Regarding CCB, many Porsche GT3 owners who regularly track their cars opt to switch to steel discs due to high cost and short life of pads. As long as the brake size and calipers are the same on steel vs. CCB, I think it would be better to opt for steel brakes.

I admit I'll be surprised if the base price of the car is closer to $60k than it is $70k.

Base price of a 335i is $43k. So you're saying that you think the M3 base price is going to be somewhere around $25k higher? No way that it's going to be 60% more than a base 335. No way.

When you put it that way it does seem far fetched to think M4 will be that much higher however when you add what is standard now plus MY price increase I think closer to 20k difference is more believable. Anything under $63k I would be thrilled with!

All it takes is a bit more standard equipment than the 335i. I think $20k more than a 335i when the two are equally equipped in very much a possibility.

Question - and maybe GOLFRR can speak to this - when do we start typically seeing the invoice + ~$600 pricing for the F80? I know the price will obviously be around MSRP for some time right at the beginning, but when does the market settle down? I'm not in the market for a new car for at least a year but just want to know what future pricing will look like since I wasn't paying attention during the E92 launch.

That's a good point. I've also read the same thing and met someone who did it.

Interresting. You would think that for a GT3 buyer the reduction of overall weight and specifically the reduction in both undamped weight and rotational mass would make the additonal cost worth it on a track car in this price range. If not, then it's just the bling factor since they do look the biz. I studied them closely on an M6 GC and there wasn't much more than a paper that could fit between the 20" rims and the rotors. They look huge, mean and powerful but the standard disks also look great when not directly compared to the CCBs. At $9k and excluded from the maintenance program it's IMO nuts for road use.

Right. But you can't buy the car without the baseline standard equipment (unfortunately). The bottom line is the bottom line.

The problem is that the rotors wear pretty fast for track use and are something like $6K minimum to replace. For real track rats it could be as much as $15-20K per year just in rotors! Compared to $5-600 for steel rotors which would be a cost under $2K annually for the same amount of tracking.

CCB are ridiculous for a street driven vehicle seeing even occasional track use. The cost/benefit is just not there short of prolonged high-speed racing WITH threshold braking, constantly. The weight savings is nice, don't get me wrong, but you can spend that $10-20k additional cost of ownership (upfront + replacements) on annual lightweight batteries, superlight wheels, CF hoods, whatever....and get better bang for the buck with less hassle too.

So DCT will be an option? I figured with the way things have been going at BMW, that manual would be an option.
